Well, I've looked around for ages, and haven't found a solution, so I'm on my last legs lads.

Anyways, over the past 4-5 weeks, the line has been absolutly terrible, getting over a thousand ping and no end to it at all. Over that time, I've skimmed the internet for answers, to no avail.

When I executed tracert eircom.net, this came up :

    1 <1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1
    2 1589 ms 1678 ms 1638 ms b-ras1.bdt.dublin.eircom.net
    [159.134.155.29]
    3 1698 ms 1744 ms 1871 ms tenge-5-2-1.pe1.bdt.bdt-fng.eircom.net [86.43.24
    6.97]
    4 1678 ms 1734 ms 1599 ms tenge-4-1-1.core1.bdt.core.eircom.net [86.43.252
    .109]
    5 1557 ms 1527 ms 1543 ms tenge-1-2-1.pe1.crz.crz-crz.eircom.net [86.43.25
    2.130]
    6 1568 ms 1415 ms 1353 ms ge1-9.service3.cra.dublin.eircom.net [159.134.12
    5.15]
    7 1315 ms 1204 ms 1144 ms isp1.eircom.net [86.43.38.8]

That's what I've had to live with for the past 4-5 weeks, and unfortunatly, I'm not the billpayer of the house, and those who actually pay the bills are quite ignorant and will not call Eircom or even go on the website to fix the problem. So hopefully, you lads might have some suggestions as to what I could do in this hair tearing few weeks. It's really affecting my job performance, as my work is based online.

    All suggestions welcome, and thanks!

Is there a phone being used with the landline? Are you using a filter to the modem?
Check out this link and see if the section that is relevant to you helps or not.

A phone is being used with the landline, however it makes no difference when someones calling someone and visa versa.Since I'm budding to go to college to do something in IT, sometimes my curiousity can get the better of me, and so I've studied where all the network wires go in the house. From this, I think there is a filter to the modem, as it splits from one wire to two for the phone and the modem/router combo box (TP-Link W8960N, not using the crappy one éircom sent) and goes directly through the wall into a reciever box into the modem/router combo box. I also tried the crappy one éircom sent, and it was actually doing worse than the TP Link did; about 300ms worse in fact.

I've also tried everything on that page, no joy m'fraid.

You removed the splitter and directly plugged up the modem to the mdp?

I have yes, though I kinda did annoy the billpayers when I did that, as they so thought I was gunna mess the whole network arrangement, but I got it done in the end.

    • Get the Eircom account number off them.
    • Sign-up to Eircom forums and enter the account number.
    • Create a thread showing screenshots of tracerts like the one below (and one to the second hop).
    • The moderator will most likely get somebody to do some line tests or he may refer you to their technical support.
