Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So, I just got around to putting Torque Pro on my phone, and buying the ELM Bluetooth adaptor.

The S.O's Saab has a managment light coming on fairly often now, so I wanted to see what it was.......see attachment.

So, how do I interpret this - does this mean the MAP is fubar'd ?

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I find this site good for fault code descriptions...:)
    http://www.permoveo.ltd.uk/tabid/122/OBD-Error-Code/P0106/Diagnostics/Saab/Default.aspx

The Absolute manifold Pressure should read about 1000mbar (atmospheric pressure) with ignition on and much the same with engine running at idle...as you rev the engine this should rise to around 1200mbar at standstill.

When the engine is under load (driving) the the map sensor measures turbo boost....not sure if you can view live data but if you can select "actual turbo pressure" and "desired turbo pressure"

The desired pressure is what the engine ecu looks for and controls the turbo waste gate/variable vanes (via vacuum/electric) to achieve this.

Both the actual and desired turbo pressure should be much the same when driving.

This is what the turbo pressure (map) sensor looks like.. http://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=saab+2.2+map+sensor+&_sacat=0&_from=R40

OP, you can try cleaning the tip of the sensor with some carburettor cleaner. Sometimes they get a layer of coke and carbon build up on them which can give rise to strange running faults and the odd spurious fault code. Spray some of the cleaner on and see what happens ;)

Often the reason for these type of errors on diesel engines is sticky variable vanes of the turbo leading to too high a boost => error code.

I guess it's a practical example of "don't shoot the messenger" as far as the pressure sensor is concerned.

You'd need to see the live date readings for the MAP sensor but the fault code seems to point to another fault. A turbo vane problem or a split intake/boost pipe or similar causing the manifold pressure to go outside the range that the sensor can read or the range it should be reading for a certain RPM/load.

Hi, just to save you some hassle, all the 2.2 gave this problem, I have easily repaired 50 sans with these faults, basically it's a wiring fault with 4 specific pins on the engine control unit (which is actually apart of the fuel pump on the engine- I know, bad design)
It's basically 4 pins at fault in the 64pin connector, we usually replace the faulty pins but you can get away with tightening them.

Padraic hello, late reply I know but can you please explain where the connector is in the engine bay? My swirl valve solenoid fails to work, however the part is fine so suspect wiring fault.

    Thank you

    Nathan

2 years too late, the 2.2 engine doesn't have a swirl valve, you probably have the 1.9 engine, it's usually the manifold swirl flaps that fail in the intake manifold..
