I didn't literally mean the back of the island, Obviously then there would be no streamers. My question is why do streamers form where number 1 is marked here but not where number 2 is marked even though they are both roughly the same sea fetch. They are also forming from the head of anglesy into wicklow which is much shorter than both fetches I have marked.

I've just seen the sat loop and there are remnants of that low still from dublin south so maybe that is hindering the development of streamers further south, Anyway we'll see soon enough.

Ah ok, got ya. Well line 1 is about 200km and line 2 is about 150km, so that's enough to make a difference. And secondly you rarely get a wind in the direction of line2, it's usually more from toward the Holyhead direction, which decreases the fetch yet again.

Wind picking up a bit here but apart from that nada.
Rather than sitting here disappointed all night pressing F5, am going to bed early in the hope I will wake up at the crack of dawn to a whiteout before work. See ya all with snowballs at 5am.:)

Light snow here now. More filled looking sky now too. Instead of being a hindrance, the wind is pushing that streamer into the Dundalk area, despite the Mournes and Cooleys being a block.

I'll be the first to say it, predicting about 7" of snow from that and blizzard conditions!!

That higher level cloud needs to shunt south.

Not expecting any decent activity until 3-6am onwards.

7" of snow !!! Where exactly?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,260 ✭✭✭highdef

Some beefy showers that passed over Newcastle Upon Tyne have made it all the way to the Cumbria coast and are just beginning to hit the Irish Sea. I wonder if there will pep up again as they get new energy from the Irish Sea??? If they do, they look like being the North Dublin streamers!

looks like most of county meath will be under the IOM Shadow going by current radar, think im on the very northerly end of the dublin steamers, light flakes falling outside.
Im in east meath, where are You?

Any snow coming our way now will be in the form of streamers, and I doubt they will amount to much. Hopefully we will see something.

Just very windy and cold here in Arklow ATM, what's the chances of snow for here?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭rc28

That flurry turned to moderate graupel here in Meath - starting to turn ground white.

    Edit; stopping now.
