Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have had enough of this childish bitching.

    Thread locked.

If anyone wants it unlocked, PM with the reasons, and I will think about it.

After a bit of consideration, I am reopening this thread.

Please keep it civil, as warning and bans will be issued.

I went over to my local aldis today also to have a look nearly everything was sold, only gloves and a pair of size 11 boots were left
There's a good reason why the gloves were left. Did you try a pair on? They were woeful quality. I could do with new gloves too.

every time this stuff come up its the same crap, and it will be repeated in a month when lidl do the same stuff,
PC you should come back then and lock that thread, as think you should have left this one locked..

its been said countless times before, if you feel like you got a bargain on any of the things good for you, if you trust said item to protect you in an off, well good for you, if you trust your pride and joy to a cheap axel stand well thats great and well done.

But for me, i like to know my stuff is well made and will survive etc so i steer well clear of most bargain brands when it comes to my life/skin/head.. my 2 cents so paddy dont go off on your high horse on me...

The socks I got were in Lidl not Aldi but I am sure they are more or less the same....They are better then wearing normal socks thats for sure but I dont think they are worth the price, maybe a euro or two cheaper.

Glad thread has been re-opened BTW.

I got some of that stuff on Sunday, I can definitely report that the wind stopper set works like a charm. 2 hours on bike yesterday in snow, hailstones and rain and was nice and worm. socks are good too. Dont trust the jacket, trousers to protect me, but the rest is meant to keep u worm which it does.

I might check out that again so.

I was hoping to pick up some gear for so passenger I carry from time to time, jacket, pants, gloves & boots & put the stuff back a little disgusted.

I was probably hoping for too much from a bargain bin.

Dont get me wrong I would much rather them do the bike stuff then no bother at all....but actually protective wear from Lidl/Aldi forget it.

Believe it or not I got great wear from a pair of Lidl textile trousers, and two crashes too.. but the seams were coming apart and had been repaired so I replaced them with RST textiles from the bike show.

I guess a lot of the stuff on sale yesterday would appeal to the commuter.

i got the paddock stand, just got it together and lifted the bike, not done anything more with it yet as i had to head, i did follow the earlier posted link to the seller in Cork on Ebay, and did hum and ha about which to go with. in the end aldi was a five min drive, and had my hands on it before buying. its heavy, and seems like good quality, at the end of the day when the bike is lifted without any hastle and it does not threaten to fall, what more do i want.
did not buy any of the other items for myself, my brother has asked me to pick up a few of them as he was out of the country. pulled them on to see fit etc. its hard to know though without a drive. but they would apear to do the job.

Plenty of paddock stands left in aldi in limerick today...was so tempted. My doggie has to go to a specialist though so im afraid that has to come first!

Yup, plenty of paddock stands, pity about the compression undervests/pants... all gone by the time I'd got home and realised that Aldi's idea of "large" is closer to what I'd call a medium. But those baskets were empty an hour after the store opened on Sunday.

Guess I'll just have to shed a few pounds, no harm tbh! :o

I've been wearing Lidl & Aldi's textile trousers for last two years for my commute. Both of them have bee have started letting water in around the seat area after about a years use, but they are fine with some waterproofing spray (which Aldi was selling last year). They are comfy enough and I wear them without the liner over my formal work trousers.

This time around I picked up their Kevlar jeans. It's not very confidence inspiring, but might be okay to wear it around the bike rather than while riding it. Anyhow with the wet summers here, there's no chance for wearing it on a day out anyway. Also picked up couple of pairs of socks this time around, but they are not as good as the Lidl stuff from 2011, but they are fine, better than normal socks like already mentioned above. Also picked up the boot - a bit stiff, but not bad for the money.

I bought Lidl motorbike textiles a few years ago for €27, and they're a damned sight more comfortable and warm than the new RST pants I bought at the RDS!.[/QUOTE]

Thats pretty interesting, I was looking at buying a pair of RST pants as I have the jacket already. Jackets awesome Id asumed the pants would be too.
Would yatake the Aldi/Lidl stuff over them?

Wow am I in the wrong thread/ year/ etc etc etc etc etc etc :D

Anyone know what the covers are like? I have two on covers on my bike; one that's ripped to bits and one that's nearly ripped to bits!

  • Registered Users Posts: 308 ✭✭pegdrums

Im not to sure we'll get any replys mate. this thread is from last year.

From reading various old threads about Lidl/ Aldi gear the general consensus seems to be that its decent stuff for the price. I think the covers in Aldi are around 15 bills or something. It'd be better than no cover but won't last for ever id imagine.

Im looking to get my girlfriend a few bits but the boots are only in sizes 7-11 :(
Maybe get her the gloves, balaclava and thermals
