Both of our value picks missed the cut, you can't eat value unfortunately!

The Golf gods are paying me back for having a winner (Bubba) next two events I can barely make a cut!

Yeah same here.Things are going alright in the LPGA and one or two others could nick a place but it's looking rather bleak besides that.I can't complain when the majority of my picks are triple figures though.I'd be far more pissed if I had someone like De Laet backed judging from his performance so far, frustrating stuff. He should be comfortable with where he is on the leaderboard now though,a steady round from him/shaky from Martin tomorrow and he'll be right in the mix.

Yeah I had a decent bit by my standards on Fowler and he completely bombed, I was debating him or Bradley, I like them both as golfers as in I'd root for them if I had no money involved but IIRC Bradley had missed the cut twice at this event and missed his last cut so I swayed for Rickie, sometimes having info on a golfer can be a bad thing! Players like Bradley don't really need form, they can just show up and play well.

Gl in the LPGA, does be fun watching that, it's like soft porn to me, I like watching pretty ladies in skimpy gear and I like pretty golf swings too! It's all good!

Just read there de laet has had 18 putts from under 15 ft for birdies that he missed you would think he would get a few

    A place and a win,decent.

Casey,Khan and Icher were a couple of strokes away from a place which was pretty annoying, was hoping at least one of those would finish well.Aphibarnrat finished 4th and I don't know why I didn't back him ew,for some reason I thought 25s was too short for an ew back when I did it,silly!Maybe because most of my other picks were a lot bigger I didn't think ew was worth while for him.If I see 25/1 worth backing this week you can be sure I'll put him/her ew,even though they'll eventually bomb.:pac:

I am a big fan of Justin Rose and I think he is just coming nicely into form after his injury but his course form here isn't great here, do I pull the trigger here of wait until the players decisions deciisions

Fair play to BetVictor, I misclicked the bet and only done a single, but I went on their chat and they nulled the bet for me, I really thought there was no hope of that happening, tried it anyway!

congrats on last weeks results some very nice picks

I have been toying with different strategies over the past few years such as backing many golfers and having smaller bets or just having 1 main bet with a couple of outsiders and so on, I have had varied success with each strategy so never really set out my strategy as such just depending on the week.

I noticed you back quite a few golfers each week across many tours and I am wondering is this profitable (I am not looking for winnings/losing here btw thats your own business) but do you keep a log/record of your bets thats shows profit?
Again the amounts you back is your own business but if you were betting to a point system roughly how much would outlay on each golfer/event/weekend?

I am intrigued by the different outlook/systems or whatever you want to call them and I am always looking at my own bets and trying to figure out what is most profitable for me so I am just trying to pick your brains a bit here but if you don't want to divulge any of the above that is fair enough as I said its your own business information like that can be personal to people.

I stake very little, probably less than most in here.A proper log is something I've been wanting to start for a while but haven't got around to yet.The money I'm putting down is so negligible that I don't have to worry about that right now,the profit or loss is fairly small either way.
I was determined to set one up for the start of this year and didn't,so decided the very least I could do was post every single bet in some shape or form on the interwebz, mainly here.No matter what sport,it's up somewhere.Lately if I'm following someones bet I won't post it though, that does leave even more of a grey area I have to sort out.

As far as staking units,I'd say you could mark them out of 3.So I might back one or two at the most on each tour with 3/3,a few more 2/3 and a few 1/3.There would be far more small and medium bets than large, maybe only one 3/3 some weeks and others at the most 4 across competitions.
I can't really answer exactly how I set up because I don't even really know myself!I suppose that's a sign of being unorganised and very possibly in the red.It doesn't feel that way but I know that's a common misconception people develop when they're at this lark.I think I have a fear of starting a log too in the sense that it might demoralise me when I see the negative numbers come in,but that's part and parcel of it all and I really need to sort it out.Hopefully I'll make the time and effort soon enough

    Thanks for the reply

Its weird I am finding myself in a strange situation regarding my log, I never expected it to go so well in the first place but now I have more income than when I started the log I appear to be speculating more which is of detriment to the points tally of the log. I have had two 40/1 winners this year of the top of my head but I am still down quite a few points for the year due to betting more.

I suppose I need to get that discipline back again with my bets and once I finish college that will free up some time to put more effort into the picks as the research and looking for angles in is the part I like the most especially when you get it right.

Sure I will share my wisdom ;-)

From Evens to 25/1 I back straight win, rest ew
My staking plan is something like following

Evens to 7/1 10-20euro win only
    8/1 to 25/1 4-8euro win only
    28/1-60/1 3-5euro ew
    80/1 + 3-1.50euro ew

Thats roughly my stakes per week. I spend between 20-30 quid a week. I only back on PGA anyway bar The Open or Irish Open.

if I back short favourite I tend back no more then 3 Golfers if even that.
At minute I back about 4-6 players per week.

Had 3 winners this year including Patrick Reed at 125/1(posted here). I love to say I had 20ew on him but that be such lie it was 1.50, ew. If it had been betfair it be 2 euro but thars way.

So I will never become a millionaire from Golf betting but I do have good record on PGA tour. My best period was between July 2011 for 6 weeks where I had some big winners including Stallings, Bradely. Piercey and Simpson(they were posted on boards).

The reason I stay away from European Tour? Well its quite simply. I made a loss 3 years in a row so dont go near it now. I remember last year I backed on Europen Tour I had 1 winner all year and that was 16/1 shot.

So think safe say was best stay away.

Have say I enjoy reading tips here. Lot of lads with good knowledge.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,911 ✭✭✭bradlente

I can't imagine staying away from a tour for 3 years, that sounds mental! But after such a long losing streak there I can see how you would decide to just leave it alone.
I had a couple of winners I backed on a whim in 2012 (none of the bets are posted anywhere!:o).That's pretty much how I started doing it regularly.Weirdly enough my stakes have shrunk in size since then, probably because I put way more bets on now.

This week I shall be putting my hex on Jonathon Byrd at 80/1 and Kevin Na at 66/1. Both with PP who are offering 6 places.

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,347 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Just to clarify on my post above when I said Last year in relation to European Tour I meant the last year I backed on that tour. It was 2009 of top of my head. Backed nothing on any tour last year as took break from betting as went back college etc so needed to save few bob.

Anyway, good luck to everyone this week.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,750 ✭✭✭redzerdrog

I had the same experience with the European tour two years ago I couldn't buy a winner and when I started my log I actually said any bets on the european tour would be very small for interest only but I ended up having several winners last year on the European Tour off the top of my head I had Jacquelin, G-mac, Ilonen, Luiten x2 not sure if there was others. I hate all those South African events though and looking forward to proper european tour events

    Lpga-Munoz ew and Wie single

South Georgia-Edward Loar,Mark Anderson and Joe Curran all ew

Terrible price imo, very expensive to follow last season and this. I've no doubt he'll be in the mix and even if he won I wouldnt be kicking myself for not backing him at that price.
