Really dislike people coming on saying they bet big, nobody cares, some reasoning behind who you have picked would be a lot more helpful.

Only 4 players for me, going on Sunday so it would be nice to have someone in contention.

Illonen @ 80/1. In good form an won he won the British Am here in 2000.

Also backed Garcia and Lowry e/w and McIlroy win only.

    Best of luck everyone.

Reasoning - you are getting 7 places when you should be getting 5
Its a 40% return on Investment pure maths I probably won't even watch a shot till Sunday Evening when I look at the leaderboard , I don't know F-all about Golf just maths these are all great EW bets

That's fine , I understand that. Coming in saying you've placed 6k worth of bets makes you look like a tool though.

Looking into previous course form for this and also other courses from designer Harry Colt. Read on another golf blog that those who did well at Royal Birkdale tend to fair well here too. The Open was held in Birkdale in 2008 and 1998. 2006 held the Open at current course. Two names that kept popping up in top 5/10 - Jim Furyk and Ernie Els. A similar designed course is Hamilton Golf and Country Club where the Canadian Open is held. Jim Furyk won here in 2006. With a T12 US Open and T14 Masters and previous course form under his belt I'm more than happy to take him @ 60/1 with pp. Also a small bit on Els @ 80/1.

    Enjoy the golf :)

Good post. I read the Birkdale thing myself somewhere. Hard to judge really seeing as this is only second time at Hoylake in fifty years but I definitely took note too

Cheers. Yeh I spotted it too and then did some research myself on the other courses. One to keep an eye on. Could be value there for Top 10/20 Finish also.

Surely a problem is that if some of your selections finish tied with other players then dead head rules apply. Therefore reduces any potential profit from selections finishing in the top seven.

You will be doing very well to get 2 places out of 7.

I don't believe you have put that amount of money on and if you have, I think you are completely mad. At the same time, good luck.

    For the record, I've backed

    McIllroy
    Donaldson
    Gallagher
    Dufner
    Casey
    Bjorn
    Dubuisson
    Hoffman

and small "nostalgia" bets on Watson and Duval.:o

Honestly guys I got the same abuse on the football forum for posting big bets , I started posting here years ago , and doing small accumulators and stuff and trying to make money , I then moved to learning about betting and odds etc , I got into groups with other lads and at the time they where betting thousands and I was betting 5 quid e/w , I built my money up slowly and am trying to give a little back , I am now a professional gambler and these are the oppurtunties professionals thrive on , 7 places is a huge advantage , I post up my bets so you can see them and see how I should make a large % profit here by backing all these at 7 place bookies .

To the guy that said he doesn't believe I placed the bets which one do you want a screenshot of?

Just a suggestion maybe give your selections and say what unit stake you have on it. For me personally it would be a €10 per unit, looks like €100 for you per unit. That way it all stays relevant and in the end you can say you're up or down whatever amount of units. Again it's only a suggestion and best of luck with your bets, should be a cracking few days golf.

I'll be hopefully getting a run for my money with the following selections:

    Stenson 18/1
    Kuchar 40/1
    Fowler 40/1
    Matsuyama 55/1

    Stenson win only.

    Kuchar, Fowler & Matsuyama E/W.

    Good luck.

I read so many blogs forums and posts about betting , when Tipsters say they are up 10 units i never get interested if someone says they are up 10k i am more interested in the possibility similarly seen people win and lose 5 figures makes me interested. I wanna know what serious gamblers are backing , if I wrote 1 unit on this 1 unit on that , people could think i'm backing 50p e/w , showing my stakes shows others how serious I am about the value here and that i believe strongly in the value.

I'm not bothered. Put up a few screenshots if you wish. Even if you have bet that kind of money I think it's silly.

Well we will see how I do against the other tipsters in the thread , remembering I have no interest in the game or have no knowledge of the game. Every major for the last 2 years I have made at least 30% return on my investment.

Just see how you get on so. Like the football thread you go on a bit and court the "abuse".

I got called a "tool" and my bets are "stupid" so far in this thread , while trying to point others in direction of good bets , I dunno why i bother , in fact like the football thread ill just bow out , because nobody seems interesting in learning

With all due respects to you, a Unit bet could be a E1 or E1,000, or E10,000, or E1......,.

A willingness to use a staking plan(unit bet) makes your betting look a bit more considered, even in a pure maths sort of way; thats all.

I had a good study of the field today and kept coming back to 1 man - Adam Scott. Played well last time the Open was at Hoylake (when very young), 2nd and 3rd in the last 2 Opens, top 15 in 11 of last 14 Majors, spent the past 2 weeks at Hoylake and other links courses to prepare. Also, he's the world no. 1, is a superb iron player and even his caddy worked with the last winner at Hoylake, so knows the course very well.

No 16/1 left now but 14/1 (with 8 places e/w on BF Sportsbook) is still an excellent price. Also, 5/6 with Boyles for a top-20 finish is a stonking bet - would be very surprised if that didn't click.
