Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ah sh1te yeah I see what you mean about MX Player interfering with other stuff, had to get rid of the xml I added earlier .

I see an option to turn hardware encoding on and off aswell in the video settings of the latest XBMC but unfortunately it only makes a tiny bit of difference to playing 720p files, nowhere near as good as MX Player, surely someones written an xml somewhere that says only switch to MX if playing a video file from SD and use native XBMC for everything else? Doesnt matter anyway I only watch videos on my phone once a month when Im traveling.

Another good thing in XBMC to skip navigating menus everytime is you can long press on basically everything selectable and hit Add to Favorites so I have all the Irish, UK and a few good US streams lined up in that menu to jump straight to them from the homescreen

Are you sure that you have the nightly build with hd acceleration installed?

I ask because since I installed that one I can play 720 from an usb drive and stream 1080 perfectly well.

I installed the third option on this list:

    http://mirrors.xbmc.org/test-builds/android/

And in Video Settings I can see an option for hardware decoding that wasnt there before and with it on there is a slight improvement to playback but still unuseable, MX player plays everything perfectly.

Thats a great tip, thanx. Thread title should be changed to 'XBMC, tips and tricks'

i can't believe i didn't hear about this before seeing this thread a few days ago.
have been dicking about with it on macbook and android over the weekend and it's deadly.
however, does anyone have any suggestions on an alternative .xml instead of johnnybravo for sport? none of the channels are working for me.

installed xbmc.can someone show me were i get notfilmon, navix and the likes?
just had a look at xbmc site and
im not sure were they are thanks

You need to just google for mossys repository and the like especially if they're in legally grey areas, theres loads of links on various forums, I remember notfilmon has a different name so Ill give you the link, this is the one I used:

    http://www.unleashiphonerepo.com/xbmc/Live%20TV/NotFilmOn/Repo/

Repositories are .zip files, put them in a folder on your phones SD, go to Add-Ons in XBMC and Add from ZIP, navigate to the repository and select it and it should load up. If it doesnt show up straight away in your list of add-ons it has probably appeared in the list of add ons in the Get Add Ons section next to NASA TV, NFL, NBA etc.

Its a bit of a mess when you're getting into it but its piss easy once you do one or two...

Thargor which ones do you use for Sports (NBA and football most welcome, i have NFL gamepass so sorted for that!). Since last night i've put on Icefilms and a couple of other movie ones, Mossy's for the Irish TV...but no sport.

Such a helpful thread guys, has made me use my Nexus so much more now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,968 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

No interest in American sports sorry, Im sure someones written a repository out there with all the streams in but I haven't looked, finding reliable sports streams is hard on a laptop on the day nevermind getting one thats stable enough to make a repository out of, they're all illegal, I end up using a different website every weekend to stream Man Utd matches because they get taken down so often.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,968 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Noticed last night that with the hardware acceleration switched on in Playback settings in the newer versions of XBMC for Android it was causing massive sync issues with all my streams, turned it off and they went back to normal after I restarted the app.

Somebody has to have set it up so that it only switches to MX Player if you're playing a video file from local storage and not streaming but Im having no success finding it.

Sportsdevil, if you use the fusion installer you'll find the repo under sport. As Thargor said the links get taken down regularly but there's new ones soon after. MyPremiumTv is the best ive found in sportsdevil.

You'll find sportsdevil in MaxMusterman's repo.

Any chance of getting this thread back on topic.

What's the best way to get the rte player working on Android?
Obviously won't work on chrome. Do you need to use explorer or Firefox?

    The thread is on topic.

mossy's repo on xbmc is the best way to get the rte player working on Android.

no ads. no pop up windows when you touch the screen. far better than trying to navigate through a rich website on a phone browser

OP here, thanks for all the info lads. This thread has gone a little obscure but thats okay :) I won't hold my breath for a dedicated android rte player app but the xbmc route is a great alternative ;)

For English channels ive found notfilmon is best and you'll need mikey1234 repo.
could you advise how to load up notfilmon. I have enabled mikey1234 repo but I don't see anything else I can do with it. I've added fusion as a source and I have enabled xbmchub but I can't find where to add notfilmon.

I haven't had any issues with 1channel, icefilms, mossy's. they could all be installed and added via Get addons and I see them under the Video addons menu

Yeah if you've added mikey1234 repo, goto settings, get addons, select mikey1234 repo, select notfilmon. Should be as easy as that.

Or, if you know where mikey1234 repo is stored on your phone, goto settings, install from zip, browse to the repo, select it, then get addons as above.

See if it has now appeared in the Get More Add Ons section next to all the ones that were already there like NASA and TED Talks and all those, check in alphabetical order for Filmon, notfilmon, mikey1234 or just scroll through that list, thats where I found it after installing it 5 times and wondering why it didnt just show up like Mossys one did.

I think sometimes a repository shows up in the list of add ons the second you install it and other times it just unlocks the option to install it in Get More Add Ons, no idea what the difference is.

I get a splash screen with Mikeys1234 and no other options so I don't see notfilmon. selecting it brings me to an empty screen with just the .. option to go to the parent dir.

The splash screen says the version is 1.2 which might be my problem because I was reading up and it looks like the current version is 2.7. Check for updates doesn't do anything.

Could you point me towards the zip you found to install it. Or did you install it via fusion?

Has anybody noticed 3 Player plays a program perfectly then just exits it like you pressed stop or the back button after exactly one minute? Does it for all shows for some reason, doesnt really matter seeing as Ive never used it but it would be nice to get all the Irish channels workiing...

    1Channel is very nice, thanks.

Ive got to build a little media centre pc with all these repositories on it for under my tv in the living room now, you can basically stop downloading files and just stream everything from now on, even on my phone with 3 3G I can watch what I like with zero errors, a media centre pc on wi-fi would be flawless, plus I could stick a load of emulators and every ROM ever made on there and get some wireless pc controllers for retro multiplayer fun after the pub :D

N00b question: Do repositories autoupdate like an app when the developer releases a new version or do I have to keep an eye on Mossys and the like pages for new versions and manually install them?

Try settings, system, audio out. Should be able to switch from analogue to digital output. Plus there's a few other settings there might do the trick.

In the Android XBMC, where the hell do I tell any of the video add-ons to update themselves or check for updates?

Settings, add ons, enabled add ons, video add ons, then if there's any updates it'll show on that list, click the particular add on and a box opens up whith an "update" button.

Is anyone finding the volume on XBMC is always way too low especially when watching UKTV on FILMon, even with system volume turned up to 100% before I boot XBMC I can barely hear it, as in Id have to hold the speaker up to my ear just to make out whats being said, any way to boost it?

Did you change the volume and preamp volume in the button at the bottom of the video screen with a volume sign on it. Volume there is up full by default but preamp is down lowest.small increases make big difference in preamp.

Yeah I find even upping the preamp by a quarter is more than enough on my tablet, and a bit more on my SII

Where are ye talking about? Is this something onscreen when the video is playing? I dont see any volume or preamp button anywhere, just the volume bar that appears when I press the phones volume buttons...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Tap on screen when video is playing you get:

    2013-04-19200602_zpsbbfc91af.png

Then tap on the little speaker symbol you get:

    2013-04-19200609_zps1adbd909.png

Of course watching Nationwide is optional, and not recommended.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,968 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Okay couldnt see it because of the Skin I was using, thanks for taking the screenshots.

This is really weird, there's nothing wrong with the speakers on my phone because other stuff is really loud from them but XBMC has gone really quite for some reason, if I plug in headphones after adjusting the volume amplification its deafening and for a split second after I pull them out its really loud out of the speakers but then goes quite a fraction of a second later, wasnt messing with any of the settings and cant see any way to fix it...

No idea about the cable question. Re: setting up XBMC, this thread is very helpful if you read back, loads of good advice, which is mainly what I got started with, just note the names of repos and programs suggested.

    As a start: http://xbmc.org/download/

http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/how-to-install-xbmc/ is a good site, and also a good guide. Then http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/2012/04/24/fusion-easy-addon-installation-for-xbmc/

Really once you work out the whole repository and add-on thing you will have a very useable system, and probably do a lot more with it that I can.
