Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My daughter gave me her old Iphone 3Gs but it's not holding a charge.
Anybody know if I can get the battery replaced . The phone seems to be in perfect condition otherwise.

    Thanks

I've had my 3GS for about 4 years now and I have replaced 2 batteries, wifi aerial and vibra motor, once you get used to it it's a breeze to take it apart, once you are comfortable taking small electronics apart.

What you'll need is a small philips screwdriver, small suction cup, tweezers and a thin blade.

There are 2 small screws on the bottom of the case, take these out. Attach the suction cup to the bottom of the screen and try to lift the bottom up, you may need to insert the thin blade to make it open up.
Once open there are 3 connections at the top, take them out as they are numbered. Once the screen is detached you'll see more numbered connections, detach these, under number 7 there's a screw under a sticker, unscrew this first and then the rest of the screws. Carefully lift up the motherboard, same way as you removed the glass front, careful with the camera at the top right.
The battery is there, it might be stuck down so might need some force to lift it, put in your new battery and reverse your dismantling process, ribbon 3 can be a pain to put back in.

There are some great youtube videos showing you how to take your phone apart. I've used Synron-irl and applepro.ie sellers on ebay recently for parts with no issues (and next say shipment), I'd recommend getting a battery and tool kit if you are getting stuff, all in all should be ~€10

Pretty straightforward. Just buy a battery on ebay and follow this guide.

Thanks for the replies folks -much appreciated. I can get one from the Apple centre installed for €40 . I know it's a bit pricey but at least they will be able to do it quickly without fear of breaking the phone.

You would be able to get it done cheaper if you went to a non apple repair shop.

Well, I went to Applefix in Ballymount today and the guy put a new battery in my phone. It's charging at the moment but hopefully it will work fine from now on.

Thanks for all the help :)

Just so you know that apple centre is not connected in any way with apple. Just seems like that's what you thought of it

There is no apple certified repair centres in Ireland for iPhone. There is for mac

Go to the apple support site and click service centre. There is nothing for iPhone
