Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Kids off road bikes

Anyone here have any opinions on kids off road bikes?
I want to get an 80 not a peaky MX 80 but a mellow bike that kids can learn on and not be worried about looping it.
Looking in the usual spots shows PW80's JR80's and an XR80.

My personal preference is for a 2 stroke, they are simpler but knowing Hondas for a long time I wouldn't be averse to an XR80 the only one I can see is listed as a 2000 bike but I remember the colour scheme as being a late 80s variant and that doesn't make me trust the seller.

I'd rather start them with a clutch not a twist and go like the PW50, the PW80 is semi auto and the JR80 is manual.
Anyone here know of a good JR/PW or similar going for reasonable money?
Maybe you've seen one in a shop?
    Thanks

I'd stay away from a 2 stroke if you don't want peaky power. A xr80 would suit you best, had one for years they are great bikes and almost indestructible

You can't go too far wrong with a Trials bike. They are more torquey than MX bikes. An old Yam TY80 would be best but I doubt many survived.

I thought about trials bikes but the TY is getting on in age now, and I would prefer something a bit more modern.
Nothing against old bikes but parts are harder to get for beginner crashes.
There are a lot more PW's than XR80's around

You can get samll modern trials bike, all the companies make small 50 and 80cc ones. As you say finding them is the hard part. Here's an 80cc Beta

A couple of 125s and a 50cc are on donedeal. Here's Sherco and a pair of GasGas, there are others there but on longer.

I saw those, that XR80 is not a 2000 model, its around 1988 -1990 they had white tanks from 1990 onwards.
If the seller isn't honest enough to put the correct age on it.....
That JR looks good, but maybe a bit much powerwise for the kids (6+8)
I suppose I could always restrict it.
Trials machines would be OK, but really you need a seat for kids at that age.

Stay clear of muckandfun anyway. Can't go into much detail at the moment but when it's finalised I'll explain

Ya the Jr looks like a nice bike, it should have a adjustable throttle screw limiter

We have two in our house: a QR50 and now a CRF70.

We did the chinese bike thing: don't waste your money.

Buy a proper Jap bike - doesn't matter what brand - but the 2 Honda's we have are the dogs'. I'd have happily had a Suzuki JR80 or Yamaha, but the CRF came up first. Made them pay for it with their communion money as well :)

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

No intention of buying a cheap chinese bike, I've seen the build quality and am not impressed.
I have come to the conclusion that a PW80 is probably the best all rounder considering that a full manual clutch will take a bit of getting used to.
Now to find a decent non-abused example for the right price...
