Elaborate as to why 80km/h isn't making progression?

If you are in a line of traffic doing 100kph, and you are doing 80kph, you are not keeping progression with the flow of traffic.

If you are trying to join a moderately busy motorway where traffic is doing 120kph, and you come off the slip road doinh 80kph, you are not progressing with the traffic.

If you are trying to join a moderately busy motorway where traffic is doing 120kph, and you come off the slip road doinh 80kph, you are not progressing with the traffic.

But the example given was that the person doing 100kph comes across traffic doing 80kph... Not the other way round. Does that not mean that the person driving 100kph is not progressing with the traffic???

Strongly agree with the slip road part of that, get stuck behind so many idiots who don't speed up to match the traffic already on a motorway when joining it, fair enough if you wanna do 80 for your journey. But if you're pulling out in front of guys doing 120 while your doing 80 you deserve to be stopped and made eat your license at the side of the road, that kind of inconsiderate and dangerous driving should be treated very harshly, in saying that it's something I see a hell of a lot when I'm driving down on ramps, and passing them on the motorway.

Recently had someone pull out in-front of me doing what must have been 60 kph at most I gotta scare so I beeped and flashed which was met by el duchbag who just pulled out in-front of me slamming on the brakes.... psychopath.

No, it simply means the person doing 100kph is an ay-hole.

    Rubbish.

Nothing wrong with driving at 80km/h in an 100 zone. And nothing wrong with 80km/h on a motorway (providing your giving way to faster traffic when joining it ;) ), there is a perfectly good overtaking lane there if your not happy.

Also remember, lot's of vehicles have limited speed of 80-90km/h in non motorway environments.

Has anybody had a problem of overtaking (at 100km/h) others doing slightly less (perhaps 80/90km/h) on a dual carriageway and then suddenly have somebody getting fairly annoyed that you had the cheek to pull out infront of them?
I personally take joy in taking as long as I can in completing the maneuver :p

I believe it's necessary to get a Doctors OK to renew.Maybe the Doctors should be more responsible about who they certify as fit to be still driving.

I know a woman who was refused the ok from her doctor, so she changed to a different one! But that's the Irish way!

You don't have to talk about the elderly in such disrespect!

You could be young and prone to seizures, or some other medical condition.

There are plenty of old people on the road that drive far better than young people and if they drive slower and it annoys us younger folk, well that's our problem as they are well in their right. Sure they could pull over but most people won't not even young farmers in tractors with miles of tailbacks because they get a kick out of it.

The statistics are there to prove that younger drivers are the cause of most fatal road accidents especially at night, so, should we ban young drivers under 24 from driving after 10 pm at night ?

Just ban everyone under 60 then, problem solved. But seriously, with you on some people getting a kick out of it.
I don't disrespect the elderly, I just don't respect everyone whose sole achievement so far was to keep on living.
But don't worry, I have nothing specifically against the elders (or any other specific group for that matter), I just disrespect everyone in general. It's not personal and I do respect a fair amount of people, but it's on a case by case basis.
There are plenty of old people who drive better than young people and vice versa.
But of course I made a point that annoyed a few people and they decided to dig in and not budge and even though my point is valid will not concede to it, no matter what.
Anyways, sorry for dragging this a tad off topic, I feel to discuss this further we would have to open (yet another) "old people driving" thread, we need one of those about as much as we need another "people driving too slow for my liking" thread.
    As to the original topic:
People driving at 80 km/h? Meh, could be worse...

I was just wondering what you all thought of the following considering people going 80kph is a problem.

Yesterday there was a number of cyclists going down the N81 with the van's and cars following them.. Now they were all moving at 30-50kph... Cyclists not a problem to pass even if they are in pairs, the problem was the effing vans and cars that were driving on the middle of the road at that speed..

There was at least 50-100 cars stuck behind them all the way down to Tallaght. Does it make it even worse that it was our Dublin Fire Brigade Cycling Club that did it???

More important things to worry about really.

I'd worry a hell of a lot more about the rubbish tipping in our ditches that is getting much worse, but no one talks about it.

Should be bin laws that every premises must have a bin,
I know people who bury and burn everything in their back gardens.

But let's worry about people driving at 80 kph instead!

I can live with folks driving 80. Can't stand seeing people doing anything less than that. Especially when it's a long windy road and you have no way of over taking with no clear line of sight

A question for those of you complaining:

WHY THE FU*K DON'T YOU PASS WHEN OTHERS PULL IN??

It takes me 80 mins to go Cork to Limerick trying to maximise my speed. It takes over 1/8 of a tank, speeding up and slowing down.

It took me exactly 93 minutes each way to go to Limerick yesterday and back to Cork today at between 85-95. I STILL had to brake, though by some celestial miracle didn't once have to touch the brake pedal in Charleville doing 40km/h today. Any faster I'd have had to stop and go again. I used just over 9l of diesel for the return journey, as opposed to about 12-13 when doing 100-110 and overtaking. I lost 13 minutes. It's a crap road for intercity, but it could be worse.

I pulled in at least 4 times to let approaching cars pass, and resumed the flow without being passed.
