This probably wont get taken serious, but ya never know.

Supposing tomorrow the Irish government stopped subsidizing college fees.

How much would it cost a person to attend (Im not talking about rent money/food/socialising etc just the actual college fees).

Also I understand fees would vary from course to course and from college to college. So for the sake of argument. Lets just say we are talking about an IT course in DCU or UCD, Trinity etc..

For my course in NUIG without the government subsidy it would cost around €7500 per year. At the moment I'm paying €2750 registration fee per year. I could check the exact figures somewhere but I can't remember how.

Edit: Found the figures, the government pays €5018 and I pay €2750

Its seems a bit silly that even if you have to pay the fees yourself (which i did after changing course) that you still have to pay the contribution charge. What exactly are we contributing towards if we're paying the fees??

I would imagine about 10k for most courses in any of the major schools.

You might get away with some subsidies bringing the price to 3k

Typical government, what a good idea to get the economy going again, take away education.

    Arts courses would be €5000.
Health Science courses would be around €10,000
    Science courses in between

In my case the student contribution is 30% of the total cost. If you have to pay them in full that means paying your 30% + the balance of the other 70%

It's about 5 grand per year. But that's not including student contribution of about 2-3k. Which is far too high. It's a backdoor charge. It's the kind of fee you'd encounter during a ryanair checkout. Either incorporate it into the overall fees or scrap it.

Nothing. If you take this advice. Sure include the rent money/food/socialising etc. This is how it's done*. Post #50

Heres UCD's costs. It would be nearly €53000 to study medicine. Cheap compared to most countries but most people wouldn't bother.
