Building a simple PC

Just looking for some help, hoping to build a simple enough PC just for everyday stuff and playing online poker. Nothing fancy is needed but still want to build a decent machine. 3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No

4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No

5. Do you need a monitor? Dual Monitors

5a. If yes, what size do you need. 22-24"
5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? No
6. Do you need any of these peripherals? Internal or external Wifi adapter, speakers

7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes but probably not necessary

8. How can you pay? Cards, Skrill, Bank Transfer
9. When are you purchasing? Over the next month or so

10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Limerick/Galway

From being a poker player myself you can fit 12 tables on a 24 inch monitor but have two 19 inch ones added in the build. For an extra 90 in your budget you could get an i5 for a beast of a machine or add an SSD

Those are only 1366X768 monitors though, some 1080p monitors would give much more real estate. Even 20"ers with 1600X900 would be much better.

Doesn't seem to be any 1080p monitors under 22" on HWVS though, if the OPs desk can fit them at all I'd go with two of these instead.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have a lot of external HDD's lying around so I'm thinking a smaller internal 1 would be fine. Desk I'll be using is over 50" so would be able to fit those monitors. I definately have some wiggle room in budget aswell. Usually I'd play up to 20 tables online so I think dual monitors are necessary.

If you have a HDD already this would be a decent build, just modified joetoads a little, The processor lack hyperthreading but very few application benefit from this, and other that that is pretty well as the same CPU as the i3.

Thanks Marco and Joe, this looks great. Just a question about the HDD, the Barracuda 1000GB=59euro and the Kingston 120GB=83euro. Why is a 120GB more expensive than a 1000GB?

The kingston is a solid state drive(SSD), once you try one, you won't go back to a HDD. Waiting for boot and loading times will be a thing of the past

It an SSD alright, my thinking you can throw in on of you existing HDDs as a second drive if you need more storage.

Once you try it you'll never go back

Been reading through a lot of these threads, find them really interesting, anyway was thinking of building a better machine with some light gaming included, can stretch my budget to 700-750 to include a graphics card etc. Would u recommend Windows 7 or 8? If you use PT or HM, a SSD should be top of your list of parts to gets. makes a huge difference mass-tabling. Would recommend a 240GB for OS and poker software or 2 120gb SSD putting OS on 1 and sofeware on the other. Get a HHD for any games.

Nice build, actually three of those ultrasharps flipped 90 degrees into portrait mode would surely make a very interesting multi tabling poker setup.

Ya loving it so far, thanks. I'm afraid that 3 of those screens are out of price range unfortunately. I do use PT while playing but never thought it was that demanding, currently using a mid range laptop and don't find it laggy or anything

When you say light gaming do you mean for the PC to be able to play new games at good settings?

Visuals don't have to be at top quality, mid to lower settings would probably be fine, just as long as it plays and isn't laggy

Use to play on a laptop up top last august when i built a PC for myself.

The biggest difference i noticed right away was Turn and River Hud stats, when 24 tabling on stars with a HDD they could take 6-10 hands to update maybe longer(cant quite remember) but with a SSD these stats were up within 1-2 hands, but it all depends on how big your Database is. Mine is 1.5 million so the SSD was a big help.

Also the SSD will speed up PT by at least 4 times when reviewing(getting hands)or looking at opposition hand history.
