    for me i would have

    LLoris
    Rafael
    Williams
    Vertonghen
    Baines
    Mata
    Carrick
    Bale
    Michu
    Suarez
    Van Persie

the centre back area is the one i had trouble choosing but i went for Williams and Vertonghen because they have been consistent for most of the season.
was a toss up between Rafael and Zabaleta for the right back position but just went for Rafael there.

Would have Evans at centre back but otherwise I'll go with your team. Was thinking that there has to have been a better left back than Baines this year but I can't think of one.

    Evra has been decent.

    Lloris

    Bale

    Van Persie
    Suarez

De Gea hasn't conceded in 4 games now and has made some hugely crucial saves. Lloris didn't play a lot at the start.

    David Luiz????

Gerrard has been ever present and has a load off assists after a poor start.

I'm a huge fan, he's been consistently brilliant for Chelsea in a hugely inconsistent season. Also it's hardly like there has been a raft of outstanding centre backs in the Premier League this season. Luiz, a Champions League winner and a man who has captained Brazil and is thought to be at the top of Barcelona's wish list really shouldn't be that surprised an inclusion.

Tough to argue with most of that. Only differences I'd have are De Gea for Lloris and Zabaleta for Rafael.

i think has he won way more points for United than lost for them...some of the saves he makes are crucial especially the one today against chelsea.

Not the case, just everything he does gets massively overemphasised. The only keeper I'd consider having instead of him here is Begovic. Nobody else has hit the same levels, including the likes of Hart and Cech.

Every keeper has made a fair few mistakes this season. Don't be swayed by the media focusing on each and every one that one particular keeper makes.

Mignolet is the best keeper in the league. Only change I'd make OP. People seem to focus on the top 4 teams for some reason. Mig has made the most saves this season and Sunderland have the second most clean sheets not bad for a team in 15th.

Mignolet ain't got **** on De Gea, he'll be in the Ben Foster pile of 'ah yeah hes good but nothing special' before long.

11 good players but not a team.

    Needs Dembele or someone.

i know its not a team....i could have Feillaini or Dembele instead of Michu to give it balance but couldnt leave Michu out.

These sort of teams aren't supposed to balance out.

Dembele and Sandro would both have been in the running only for Sandro to get injured. Vert and Bale certs IMO, haven't watched much aside from Spurs games tho tbh.

If we're playing players in their actual positions..:

    De Gea
    Zabaleta Cahill Vertonghen Baines
    Carrick Dembele
    Mata/Walcott Michu/Fellaini Bale
    Suarez/RVP

Surprised Carzola is not on anyone's team

    ..........................Begovic

    Zabaleta...Vertonghen....Cahill...Baines

    ..................Fellaini...Dembele

    ......................Mata/Michu
    ....Suarez...............................Bale
    ..........................RVP

Couldn't quite pick between Mata & Michu
Rafael could be RB just as easily as Zabaleta.
Cazorla would be in there if not for having to find space for Suarez
2nd CB is actually a very close call between a few but Vetonghen is def (great signing).
Like most its probable too attacking if a real team but it could work with the CM 2.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,521 ✭✭✭Giggsy11

Surprised Carzola is not on anyone's team

Why? Mata, Bale, Suarez, RVP, Fellaini, Michu all had better seasons than him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,952 ✭✭✭Morzadec

Yeah I think Cazorla (while he has been great) would probably just be pipped by Mata.

I think it's hard to do these teams without watching every single game, but from what I've seen (and read/heard), and playing a balanced team in with players in position, I would say:

    De Gea

    Rafael--Chico--Vertonghen--Baines

    Gerrard--Fellaini

    Mata

    -Suarez
    RVP
    Bale

I think that both fullbacks, Vertonghen and the front 3 are pretty inarguable.

The reason I've thrown Gerrard in there is that he's been playing pretty deep, so by going by my original criteria of a balanced team I'm not sur eif the likes of Dembele would fit in.

Maybe Sandro or Carrick could be better shouts here, but Gerrard has been pretty immense this season - 8 goals and 9 assists and a great all round contribution in midfield.

Has there been a standout natural DM this season?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,828 ✭✭✭bullvine

Carrick has been by far the most outstanding Center Midfielder in the premier league this season, nobody comes close to him. Hes won over a lot of the United fans who didn't rate him(me included) this year. Hes been arguably, United's Player of the year ahead RVP. I will be surprised if hes not shortlisted for the PFA award because I'd say hes very well regarded by his fellow pros.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

Biased I know, but Mignolet deserves the goalkeepers spot IMO. Without him we'd be already down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,365 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

i'm glad Sunderland fans got in before me on Mignolet :pac:

    Mignolet
    Zabaleta
    Williams----Vertonghen
    Baines
    Carrick

    Dembele
    Mata
    Suarez
    Bale
    RVP

i felt silly not having Michu in there, but I just can't justify any of those front 4, and i like having some sort of balance in the Team of the Year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,365 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

try no two players from the one team...just for a slight challenge...

    Mignolet (Sun)
    Zabaleta (MC)---Williams (Swa)
    Huth (Sto)----Baines (Eve)
    Carrick (MU)

    Wilshere (Ars)
    Mata (Che)
    Suarez (Liv)
    Bale (Tot)
    Benteke (Villa)

it's a little trickier than i thought it might be.
