but sure you can say that about nearly every job if it goes wrong, fitting a gas fire aint rocket science, I just couldnt remove an old surround on the fire, as I have never done it before and didnt want to chip the marble background, he came couldnt remove it either and eventually I cut it off with the grind. Fooker managed to scratch the wood floor aswell. typical builder, cant do a clean tidy job

Did anyone manage to get a valuation for their house off revenue.ie for the new property tax?

I looked it up and it seems to have the same valuation for all rural areas around us which is €0k to €100k. Maybe it gives a proper valuation for urban areas?

Whats the money like?.. We have off farm jobs and farm on a small scale, but hour for hour I'd make more money stacking shelves in Tesco.... But I wouldnt be happy!

Im in that trade myself and if it was a straight enough swap without too much alteration he seems to have done ok for himself today.

he supplied an on/off valve and 3ft of gas piping and an elbow so about 10 of materials. didnt ask for a price beforehand as a couple of other fitters already didn't turn up, and i was getting an earful. I was thinking around 160 would be a good price for him to charge not 260. Anyway he wont be asked back or recommend to anyone else, I was going to ask him to do another job (couple of days work) before he handed me the invoice.

Allot depends on how dry the material is in the bale. Very dry bales would last ages whereas wet bales would want to be used within a week or so. I have bales of hayledge shifted a month ago with spike holes

Road blocked on the way to a job this morning so i turned back and went fencing for the day. Two coats on and 9 hrs later we had fenced off 3 eight acre blocks on a bit of ground. Got home and the soliciter had dropped out paperwork on my first bit of ground i will have bought. So from this week on i will be whingeing about repayments.
Great satisfaction in a bit of hardship.

went to collect oh, he was leaving lorry in a yard as the roads into and out of our yard are lethal- had been away in lorry all day, i went in jeep and fecking spun it on the road, road is like a sheet of glass, ended up facing the opposite direction to where i was going:eek::eek: lucky nothing was coming in opposite direction

Congratulations Chippy. I rook that plunge two years ago and have never regretted it yet. I love hearing lads driving on and saying **** the recession. I listen to people in work everyday whinging and doing nothing to better their own lot. Best of luck with it and may it produce show quality cattle for ya.

Just had to get vet to assist calving.. calves head was not right and I couldn't get.. vet came hook in eye socket. Calf out dead a huge Hereford bull.. I jokingly said to vet "there's hardly another one in her" vet said no way but he would handle her to see if she was ok.. low and behold another calf tailwards and dead too.... Vet said they are the biggest twins he has seen in years... A costly eve but atleast cow is ok....

The calves were hardly by DPS by any chance?? all his calves are big but brilliant quality. Helped an uncle pull one last week from a second calver br/fr, he said it was the hardest pull he had in years. got her out alive anyway which is the main thing

We are in milk here and keep a few Hereford crosses for beef each year.. I know its not as much as a loss as a fella who is just in beef.. just the point..

No the calves are from our own bull which we bought to clean up after we finish with the AI. Had no problems with calves from him last year..10 cows left to calve all incalf by him.. fingers crossed for smaller calves

Another cracking morning here. Bright and cold but no winds to speak off.

Everything frozen solid, low of -6.5c overnight and it's warmed up to -3.2 now.

When a dealer buys stock and brings them to a mart to sell on.
Who's name appears on the board when the stock hit the ring??

Was told that the last two calves I bought were bid up by the dealer selling them .
I'm happy with the price but didn't notice his name on the board, should it have been ?

it depends on how well the dealer knows mart manager, sometimes dealer can buy stock and run them through the mart in the previous owners name, so it looks like you bought directly from previous owner,

he could also have been selling them on behalf of the farmer. Of course the seller or a representative of the seller is not allowed to bid on their own animals.

Ah, it's not a big deal. They were two FRx bulls, €70-90 each and they are flying. Just a lad I met was there and said the dealer across from me was bidding the up, I reckoned if he haddnt someone else would as he wasn't the only bidder against me.

I'd hate a fella to think he was getting his leg across me, and dealers like doing that
