Total prize purse is the entry fees from the aquathon (€15k).
The Half ironman entry fees total in the region €150k

Less than 9% goes to prize funds. Is 9% a good ratio?

As an polish athlete if you where to win that race that would help you a big deal to cover yearly trainings expenses. An Irish ahteltes has no chance to win 5000Us in an Irish race.

The Ironman branded races ratio would be 2-4% approx.
    Athy about 4-5%?

What would be the cost difference in putting on an Irish event compared to a Polish event?

What percentage of average weekly wage would €70 to enter in Poland be compared with Ireland?

Some people talk and talk and talk about events and the prize money, but never seem to actually set up and run an event themselves to show how everyone else is doing it wrong.

cost of the race would depend mostly if race is commercial or volunteer based. So since this is commerically oroganised cost would be much higher than an Irish volunteer organiced race.
Otherwise If you can convince the authoritise how much income you can generate for a community from a race like this the running costs should be low for both races in ireland and poland. Communities sometimes pay to hold those races ( remember the galway race had to be cancelled as Galway did not want to pay the asking fee and fell shy of the 250 000 euro other cities pay to stage such a race)

entry fee it would hurt as much as an irish person doing an aborad Ironman distance type race). But all tri gear has about the same price in poland as in Ireland and a lot of polish people order from chain reaction and wiggles.

It won't be won by any polish athlete as they are really poor.

Going to agree with Peter on this one.

There *are* examples of races that give big prize money with low entry fees. *However* they don't make the organisers money. Bar these few most the goal of most races seems to be to make more for the organisers. Including the race you are involved with. Which is fair enough. Thats what they are.

Not my point at all, my point is there are people who go on and complain about prize money and organisers but don't have the balls to set up and organise the perfect race themselves.

I agree there are races where organisers max profit and there are races where this goes to the athletes BUT we are free to enter the races we want and to someone who hasn't a chance of winning ( like the majority ) a well organised race is more important to me than big prizes and goodie bags.

    And your point is ?

If you are so concerned why haven't you put on a race yourself ?
