I'm thinking of moving to UPC, but I would like to be able to use Wifi router that would support Tomato

Problem is, I dont have a clue what sort of router is required for UPC - can anyone advise?

UPC use eudocsis devices, which are paired to your account so you can only use the device they provide you with. However some of the routers they provide support bridging, so you can disable wifi and use their router as a modem and then use your own device as a router. Any router that runs tomato and doesn't include a builtin dsl modem should be suitable for this.

If your going to choose this model why not pay the few extra quid for the
    Asus RTAC 66

That way you are future proofed for the new 802.11ac WiFi

except that it doesn't have a fully working (Stable and fully featured) port of tomato going on it yet.

it probably won't be too much longer before it does, but it's not ready at the moment so if he's specifically looking for something that will run tomato, that's not going to fit the bill just yet, which is a real shame as it looks like an amazing piece of hardware. :(

that said, maybe he can get by with the stock firmware for now and move to tomato once they get it going properly.

    Oops my bad :(

The "N" model seems to have a stable version running.

    Good video here:

i don't imagine it will be all that long before they have it stable, but i don't see an issue with getting it and using it with the stock firmware for now if he can manage it and then upgrading to tomato when it is running stable on it.
