I bought a pc in dublin, after 15 months ,it broke down.
IS it covered by a warranty ,eg eu 2 year warranty.
Will they repair it if i return it.
I HAVE original receipt ,purchased december 2011.
It just boots up, says PC BIOS, ram 2gig, etc press esc ,acess diagnostic menu, if i press cntl alt del,it reboots, esc key does nothing,f2,del key does nothing.
cpu fan cable broke, i think motherboard ,is damaged.I put on a new fan, makes no difference.

IF ITS out of warranty ,ill just put in a new motherboard, and cpu.

Are you sure you haven't accidentally knocked loose 1 of the hard drive cables? Either the sata or sata power on either the hdd or mainboard end?

If the mainboard or processor were damaged you wouldn't see the BIOS menu.

If it's still under warranty they have to fix it but it might be a simple problem that you could fix yourself.

I have dvd and hd sata cables disconnected from motherboard,
    makes no difference.
sata power to hd,sata power to dvd, are not plugged in,at the moment.
do you think ,it might be just faulty ram,
    one dim 2gig is installed.

You wouldn't see the BIOS either if the Ram was faulty.

Any swollen capacitors on the motherboard? Shouldn't be an issue after such a short time though, what happens does the machine freeze during POST/lock up? Try to clear the cmos/battery pop and leave it out for 2-3 min. Also does the fan not spin up when the cable is plugged in? Fan controllers can go but it is rare. Make sure if it's a 3 pin plug going into a four pin socket it is going into the correct pins

I installed new fan, its a 3 pin ,same as the old one, it spins up.
its 3 pin ,mobo, power to fan outlet, as used in 99 per cent of pcs.
i can post a video tommorow,
i,m tired, i spent 2 hours, setting up, a pc,to replace the hp one.FOR the moment.

installing, memory, hardrive, downloading ,installing, ubuntu 12.
    i think its ATHLON cpu,3.oghz.dual core.2gig ram.dvdrw.

    i put another 2gig ram, in HP PC.1110 .
it makes no difference.got another pc from electronic recycling ,cost 50 euro,
    HP 4700.

i turn on pc, it says press esc for menu ,hp 1110.

    i press esc ,
it says, press esc to acess diagnostic,

    esc does nothing,
    f2,del, f10,does nothing.

    i can power off,
or press control ,alt, del, for a reboot,
    Thats it.
esc does not bring up diagnostic menu.
ill look tommorow, for any dodgey capitors.
hp pc 1110 uses one fan 3x3 inch on cpu ,heatsink.
uses external pc,like a laptop psu.

fan has standard plastic unit,3 holes, goes into 3 hole pwr unit on the motherboard.

I think as you have changed parts you void any warranty.

I don,t think it voids warranty to put in an extra 2gig ram,i can put back old fan back,i still have it.

Is it a refurb or new computer? If it's a refurb and an old computer the problem could be bad capacitors. I've seen HPs that stall on bootup and that was the issue. I cannot really make out from your post what you have hence the question. The CPU fan should work though, that's odd it doesn't come on, could be the fan itself is dodgy or the controller for it on the mobo is gone

TO CLARIFY, i bought new hp pc, cq1110 uk ,
in dublin shop in december 2011.
i put in a new fan yesterday, fan ,comes on, as normal.

    i got another hp pc,today, refurb,pc,
its working fine, put in ide drive, and installed ubuntu.
removed 3.5inch floppy drive from it to make more space.

on hp1110 pc, the fan stop, spinning up, pc crashed,
i opened pc,discovered, one cable had become detached from fan,
i think the solder holding cable onto fan ,melted.
    so pc overheated.

i put on a new cpu fan on hp1110 pc, it comes on fine, fan is working normally.
i think theres a fault with the pc motherboard.

    I HOPE that is clear.

    hp1110 is bought a a brand new pc,in box, with keyboard,mouse,
    power supply .new pc.

i disconnected hd and dvdrom from motherboard ,
to see if it would make a difference,
eg sometimes a dodgey drive can stop a pc bios from loading.

you have no chance with warranty if the original fan is damaged

Did you test the hdd in another system

the way the pc ,is designed ,its very hard to remove the drive, without taking the whole pc apart.
    no did not test it.

    that fan is like this,
    http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00SMFTAZlEpdkK/CPU-Cooler-GJ-X-.jpg
    cost of manufacture ,3 euros.
held on to the heatsink by 4 screws.
its about the cheapest looking fan you could use in a pc.
if it was a more ,well designed, fan, it would not have failed .
so if solder melts, pc fan stops spinning, its my fault?
a tiny bit of solder holds 2 wires onto the fan.
one wire fell off ,from point where it connects to fan.

IT s like that phrase ,
the ship sank cos of a halfpenny worth of tar.
pc broke cos of 2euro fan.

Its probably got a base one year warranty on parts, which means you probably won't be covered..

However you could ring HP or the shop you bought it from (they'll probably tell you to ring HP directly anyway) and see what sort of warranty you have.

Play dumb, don't tell them you've changed or swapped anything. They'll use that as an excuse not to fix it.

If you have a two year parts warranty (which I doubt), they'll probably fix it for you.

    Edit:

    and

These are for the UK, which Ireland will probably be the same for.

Thanks very much for the advice, Yoyo,
i removed the bios battery for 4 minutes,
    replaced it,
    PC is now fixed,works perfectly.
    the bios reset.
SO i just used the hp win7 recovery cd, to use fix bootrec /fixboot, bootrec /fixmbr ,
to get win7 to load as before.

i replaced the old cpu fan.
I, Just need to get another 2gig ram, to bring it up to 4gig and thats it.
I,LL get it in peats or maplins.

I,ll remove the dvdrw ,drive and replace it with another one,
as i find it very loud, if i,m playing music cds,
the other pc i got ,2 days ago, has a dvdrw drive, which is very quiet when playing cds.
IF i can figure out how to remove it ,from ,the pc steel casing ,which holds it inside the case.

I,ll buy a slighty bigger fan, as i think the original one is a bit small.
I did,nt need to do a windws reinstall.
IT,S the first time i,ve seen that fault on a pc .
i thought the motherboard was overheated ,and damaged .
I removed all screws ,from the dvddrive, drive moves back 3inches,
i can,t see how to remove the dvd drive from ,the steel case ,cage that holds it ,
    to the main pc case.
