Snow starting to get heavier in Arklow

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,909 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

had a slight dusting this morning but it's long gone now, still the odd snow shower every now and again which attempts to stick but the showers are far too short and far apart for any lying snow. We need moderate to heavy prolonged showers that merge together lasting all day.

Wind at Casement and Dublin Airport ENE now, the wind that steers the clouds is E anyways, maybe slightly ENE. Snow flurry here

Still no sign of a breakdown to mild on the models

How about this from the UKM for April 1st?

    Bizarre.

Yeah if we keep see'ing persistance,an antrimesque snow storm seems inevitable to me.
Couple of ways that could happen. The short notice ones are features developing in the continent.
A shallow low in the Irish sea and also if a low tries to attack from the south and makes it up say 100 to 200 miles less north than last weeks Thursday Friday event.

All of those increase in likely hood as this goes on.
All of those are independent of the fact that air temps when dry has and will continue to see brief high temps of 3 or 4c.
Showers or features don't care about what happens in this flow briefly in dry periods.
They are governed by the conditions IN the flow.
That flow should keep everything all snow/graupel and when under them temps obviously must drop.

Currently another short burst of medium light snow in the flurries in Arklow.

Yeah has been alternating between E and ESE at Dun Laoghaire harbour so I presume its similar here. Really don't want to be caught in a shadow later but the nature of the precipitation seems to be more widespread, even though its light/moderate in intensity

    Another snow flurry here

Back to E at M2 bouy.

Looks on radar like a heavier blob heading your way now, if not already arraived?

Just had a lovely cycle from Ballsbridge to Sandymount in full on fluffy white stuff, not sticking but I'd say it'll be nice further east from here

Had a moderate snow shower even if it lasted for 1 min :D Now just light snow flurries but sky to the east looks promising

Heavy snow in dublin 8 and flakes getting bigger. Proper snow! If it could just keep falling for a while. Can't believe it's nearly April looking out there. Wicklow mountains looking plastered now

Once again, the heaviest stuff is reserved for the Mourne Mountains and environs. Very interesting day for weather watching :) Light blowing snow here

    Getting light again here

There's more on the way judging by the heavy shower that just passed through D8, it was heavier and lasted longer than any of the other showers that we've got this morning.

YIKES!!!! temps have risen quite considerably here because of the current break in showers and its dragging the DP dangerously high !
