I'm really hoping International don't win Best Soc. Their hust was terrible. Didn't mention funds or anything of the like. Plus, they just rehash the same ideas every year. Their main point was that they has 960+ members. Woop de doo, you get them handed to you.

    Best New and Improved.
Soc Fan Forum, based on presentation anyway, though motorsports could snatch it too,
Club It think it'll be Mountain Biking, based on the presentation but parkour put up a fight too...

    Best Event.
Club I think Kayak has got this one down.
Soc I'm extremely biased but am hoping for Out in UL, if not, Deb U.

    Best Person.
Club Conor Hurley will take it home.
Soc Could it be anyone but Tig really? :D

    Best overall.
    Club Kayak, more than likely.
Soc Once again biased to Out in UL but yeah, other than that Deb U again, maybe they'll finally break the tradition of not winning

    Best
Soc -I'm hoping for Out in UL to win Best Society and Best Soc Event, but it may be tough competition. I don't know about International Soc's previous hustings but there is 900+ of them, so you have to take into consideration a lot of committees could have had international students present. I hope Out in UL get it, that last slide really showed they are the best society. Woo Hoo for life saving. As for Deb U, I know nothing about them really so I can't say. They had an alright hust.
Club - I honestly don't know, Karate mainly based on I saw a few people I know do karate in the room.

    New and Improved
Soc - Fan Forum, they seem awesome enough, I enjoyed their slides and don't remember the rest.
Club - Ultimate Frisbee's finances just look at them guys. Pretty convincing hust.

    Best Event
Club - is between Kayaks and Frisbee, but I think Kayak will get it.
Soc - OUT IN UL GUYS!!

    The Best Person
Soc -Tig, I don't even know the guy but I know everyone loves him.
    Club - Maybe Parkour?

Kayak have this sown up. the Karate event was awful
    Society Event
    Debating Union, Deb U Open

    Ultimate Frisbee, Barry Walsh

    conor most likely.
    Best Society Person
    Comedy, Tim Foran
    Drama, Tighearnan Noonan,
    International Soc, Kennedy O Brien

Very tough call, all men really gone above and beyond the call of duty here. I just have a feeling KOB will get the job done here, despite his horrible beard.
    Best Club
    Archery
    Karate Shotokan
    Kayak

kayak is favourite but i want archery to win
    Best Society
    Debating Union
    International Society

    New and Improved

Soc- I'm biased in favour of Forum. I think we've a pretty decent shot.
Club- Parkour are a pretty strong club, the slave auction was placed just before hustings to get the word out. I heard that they've been in this category for a good few years now, does anyone know how many?

    Best Event

Soc- Probably Deb U's IV. Rainbow week had a few setbacks last semester that weren't Out in UL's fault.
Club- Don't know as much. Kayak have gotten a strong buzz from what i've heard.

    Best Person

Soc- Tig's such a huge figure in C&S. I didnt know the other two until the elections started just there.
Club- Don't know any of the club people. Best of luck to all of them.

    Best Overall

Soc- Out in UL. Solid year, everything done right from what I saw. Lot of good committee work.
Club- Kayak I think. Strong showing overall in C&S and on campus.

I'm not knocking Parkour but I am wondering why they keep going for Best new/improved?? If you've been saying you should be awarded best improved for 3 (?) years, why aren't the going for Best overall?? I think they're a great club and I think they'd have a decent chance at it too.

    the cheats!

Not implying that at all, one can't really cheat in these awards...

    New & Improved Clubs
    Mountain Bike UL
    Parkour
    Ultimate Frisbee

Parkour were really impressive this year. Went from jumping over fences last year to backflips. I agree with the most new and improved. Go for best no?

    New & Improved Societies
    Fan Forum Society
    Psychology
    Racing and Motorsport

Funny memes which held peoples (my) attention.

    Best Club Event
    Karate Shotokan, Karate IV
    Kayak, Kayak IV
    Ultimate Frisbee, Siege of Limerick

I can't remember but it looked like kayak were going for best club rather than best club event.

    Society Event
    Debating Union, Deb U Open
    Out in UL, Rainbow week
    Poker , Student Masters

Hoping Rainbow week wins, but if that doesn't DebU may take it home.

    Best Club Person
    Archery, Thomas Brouder
    Parkour , Conor Hurley
    Ultimate Frisbee, Barry Walsh

I think this was the best. Hard to remember now.

    Best Society Person
    Comedy, Tim Foran
    Drama, Tighearnan Noonan,
    International Soc, Kennedy O Brien

I'm slightly biased towards Drama, heck I was husting for Tig but anyway, if he doesn't get it KOB will.

    Best Club
    Archery
    Karate Shotokan
    Kayak

    I remember this looking impressive.

    Best Society
    Debating Union
    International Society
    Out in UL

Again, biased. I'd like to see DebU take it home if Out in UL don't. It's time someone dethroned International.

Might as well give mine, since I started this thread!

    New & Improved Clubs
    Mountain Bike UL
    Parkour
    Ultimate Frisbee
They really hit home that they were bad last year but have improved so much. The others didn't feel as improved as they did.

    New & Improved Societies
    Fan Forum Society
    Psychology
    Racing and Motorsport
Just on the jokes alone they will win (regardless of content - but it helped!)

    Best Club Event
    Karate Shotokan, Karate IV
    Kayak, Kayak IV
    Ultimate Frisbee, Siege of Limerick
Kayak due to their kayak there and not really about the content that was going on. All 3 were fantastic events.

    Society Event
    Debating Union, Deb U Open
    Out in UL, Rainbow week
    Poker , Student Masters
I'm biased with Poker. Overall though I would say it's quite close in this category.

    Best Club Person
    Archery, Thomas Brouder
    Parkour , Conor Hurley
    Ultimate Frisbee, Barry Walsh
Presentations were grand (I can't remember much about them) but I do remember thinking Conor would be the one to win it.

    Best Society Person
    Comedy, Tim Foran
    Drama, Tighearnan Noonan,
    International Soc, Kennedy O Brien
Tig, well known does quite a lot with more C&S and came across as doing an outstanding job. Tim's had slides in the wrong places and just didn't come across great. Kennedy seemed like he did a good job but not an outstanding job which would put Tig ahead of him.

    Best Club
    Archery
    Karate Shotokan
    Kayak

Hard one to call, Archery with Karate a very close second. I would have said Kayak before this (based on what I thought of the event and individual husts) but it wasn't as memorable as the event submission.

    Best Society
    Debating Union
    International Society
    Out in UL

I felt Deb U should win this (they had a better presentation overall than the rest) but when Out in UL showed the thing about Out in UL saved my life, they will win.

    New & Improved Clubs
    Mountain Bike UL
    Parkour
    Ultimate Frisbee
Like the sound of it, other 2 are older ones I believe...
Unfortunately not overly familiar with any of them...

    New & Improved Societies
    Fan Forum Society
    Psychology
    Racing and Motorsport
Biased towards Fan Forum Soc here as well,
Not sure how new you have to be to apply for new as well hear though,
They've potential to apply for something better I reckon..

    Best Club Event
    Karate Shotokan, Karate IV
    Kayak, Kayak IV
    Ultimate Frisbee, Siege of Limerick
    Never saw any...

    Society Event
    Debating Union, Deb U Open
    Out in UL, Rainbow week
    Poker , Student Masters
Would be swinging towards Poker as it's the only one I'm in, but the Student Masters isn't a UL exclusive event, handed out some tickets alright as prizes,
Don't think they'll win this one... Sounds like something Out in UL will probably get...

    Best Club Person
    Archery, Thomas Brouder
    Parkour , Conor Hurley
    Ultimate Frisbee, Barry Walsh
    Seen none of them.

    Best Society Person
    Comedy, Tim Foran
    Drama, Tighearnan Noonan,
    International Soc, Kennedy O Brien
Tig I'd say, seemed to be most popular, sounds like a nice lad too..

    Best Club
    Archery
    Karate Shotokan
    Kayak
Again, never saw husts but beforehand would've gone for Kayaking, generally seem to have a bit going on.

    Best Society
    Debating Union
    International Society
    Out in UL

Out in UL won a few last year, wouldn't surprise me if they done the same this year, would be nice though, as Debating and Out in UL are against each other in two categories, if they both won one...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Chris Martin

I don't think it's fair to judge them based soley on a couple of events. They did submit a nomination form and made the final 3.

It is all of the events since like mid March last year. I've been to a few and throughly enjoyed them. I've seen events run very well but I haven't enjoyed. They did the best presentation on the night (in my opinion) and they did seem like they tried to cater for as many in their society as they could.

I hope everyone who got nominated in best new/most improved categories takes that enthusiasm and try to win best club/society next year!

Congrats to everyone who got nominated.

    Helpful as always

ALSO, as much as I love Kennedy (HI KENNEDY! o/) I'm so sickened for Tig. For me, he's everything clubs and socs strive to be, all in one person. Really thought he was gonna take the Sadlier home this year.

(Well done to you too Kev but, y'kno, I'm blatantly biased!! :P)

What's your problem? They work well as a society and have a committed base.
