Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Next weekend as far as I know, the venues are generally confirmed on Monday night.

Castlecomer against Martin's in a relegation battle will be for adults only

No Richie hogan?! Are you mad? I'd put him in for power, and gorta for Larkin. The rest looks about right.

    Ritchie Hogan for Brennan.

The Village couldn't have had a much tougher first round fixture, but then we didn't do brilliantly in the league.

What are the chances Gowran could get promoted at the end of the championship? They look to have gone well in the league.

Gowran lost to Tullaroan and Thomastown in the league. Not the form of champions.

Alot depends on the run in but tullaron and bridge are probably favourites, ballyragget probably next after suffering a few final defeats, intermediate is a fairly level playing field and not a huge gap from the top junior sides, gowran probably as good as most sides but wouldn't be expecting them to win it outright.

I would go along with that but I give Freshford a chance also, they have been scoring goals freely

Do all of the players who won all Ireland medals on the team last Sunday week play with senior clubs.

Are many of that team playing with junior and intermediate clubs.

I was at the Freshford Bennettsbridge game on Saturday, wasn't overly impressed with Freshford, think they're forwards are a little bit lightweight. Was impressed with the bridge though, I think it's between them and Tullaron for me

I was told that Freshford were missing 5 or 6 players. Anyway, should be a very interesting competition. One of Ballyragget or Graigue Ballycallan to be gone this weekend

Yeah they possibly could have been, the only player I know they were definitely missing was James Meagher. I think it has to be now or never for Ballyragget, they've been so close over the last few years, you get the sense if it doesn't happen this year it might never happen!!

Fennelly vows to battle on despite chronic back trouble

Don't ask. Because the truth is Michael Fennelly doesn't know how long more his back will give him. He doesn't know how much longer he can chase the dream.

It's his intention to be back in the saddle with Kilkenny next year but the potential for Ballyhale Shamrocks' campaign to run and run is very real.

That wouldn't help his back but then a complete rest wouldn't make much difference either.

"This year was massively difficult again," Fennelly said at the launch of Chia Bia's plant-based Omega 3 Chia Oil. "I got numerous injections, the back triggered off two or three times during the year.

"I was very fortunate to have actually played the three games I did. It was actually a bug that caught me out for the Leinster final, it wasn't actually an injury but in saying that I was carrying an injury and don't think I would have lasted the game.

"I'm not too concerned about a break, obviously my body does need it and it would be excellent to get but in saying that this whole back problem seems to have its own mind. And no matter what I probably do it is just going to probably cause me trouble."

    Hassle

The smallest of things give him hassle. Every year around April and May, just as the ground starts to harden, his back gives problems. As the year drags on and winter closes in, the cold weather also gets into his bones. Every day he walks around with a vague ache. As far as his future in hurling goes, he can only work on a day-to-day basis.

"I'd say next year we'll just see how it goes again. Look, obviously I'm looking forward to next year again and that. We'll just go day by day, week by week really, that's all we can do.

"Every April or May something seems to happen, whether it's an ankle injury or a back injury, it always happens. I'm used to it now but you can't keep going like that forever.

"Obviously I'm 30 years of age now, I'd love to get another three or four years in but it just depends on injuries and the body to be honest."

Right now he's happy to try and limp through and win what he can while he can but down the line, he's going to have to make a decision based on his long-term well-being rather than his immediate goals.

Next year he'll go in search of a ninth All-Ireland medal but there were times this year when he didn't think things would work out for them.

"That's one fear I did have," Fennelly adds. "Some training sessions weren't going as well as other years but I suppose you have to take a step back and say we are missing all those big players who were stand-out players and that's not there yet. But hopefully that will come."

That is worrying for the other teams if he thinks they were not going well this year, some man if he stays going though he could win eleven when we do the drive for five!

Fair play to the Einstein who set the Shamrocks game for 2pm and the Mullinavat v Carrickshock game for 3:30pm.

You would have a fairly big crowd who might have went to both...that's pretty much impossible now.

I know the original fixture schedule had be be revised due to requests from a number of clubs for switches for various different reasons. Then with Sunday afternoon kept free to avoid a clash with the football final i am sure the fixture committee did their best to accommodate as many clubs, players and supporters as possible.

Heard he was back with the specialist. Heard himself and Jackie are out for the Shamrocks. Larks is due to go on UN duty soon presume he doesn't want to miss that.

Shane Maher is out injured for the year. Danny Kenny is ruled out with work commitments i believe. Not sure where how there is a big turnover of players?

    Richie Power played today.

Richie Power & Michael Rice both played today & both clearly weren`t fit enough to be starting, desperation stuff from the Shocks looks very much like a sinking ship

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,747 ✭✭✭brookville

The boro match was a game of two halves, danesfort much the better in the first half but the boro made a few changes in the 2nd half which seemed to have worked, richie hogan is a joy to watch and worth any admission he got two lovely sidelines aswell, buckley was good in the 2nd half, both teams wouldn't frighten anyone but hopefully will improve with there next match.

Just wondering why these 2 lads wouldn't be fit after being on Kilkenny panel for All Ireland.

Did they get hurt after that?

Richie has serious knee trouble had to get fluid removed from the knee after All Ire couldnt play against Clara last week, Rice started against Clara but did hamstring & came off after 20mins, I`m not knocking the 2 guys they deserve huge credit for being on the pitch yday, I think it more highlights the desperation of the shocks to get them on the pitch as they know they won`t win a meaningful match without them

    http://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/hurling/i-have-massive-respect-for-donal-og-but-i-was-bulling-at-the-stepford-wives-thing-31539891.html

Not sure how much I want to revisit this whole Stepford Wives nonsense again, but I was very interested in his account of the 2006 final. That was my favourite of all our All Ireland wins (despite my animosity towards Tipp), pretty much for the kinds of reasons Henry lays out here. It was billed as the clash of old and obsolete against the future of scientific sporting preparation. I genuinely believe that if we lost the game the course of hurling history since would have been utterly different. Cody, for one thing, would probably have been forced to resign, and the Cork approach would have become the blueprint for all.

But it's interesting to read about the psychological approach Kilkenny took to that match, especially the double irony that, having been wrongly regarded as having no tactical preparation to their game for years, htey were finally credited with tactical brilliance on the one day that they had utterly abandoned their actual tactics!

EDIT: As an aside, I can't believe it's almost ten years since that day. It seems so recent to me.
