    Hi folks,
Have to be in Derry on 2 weekends in May and instead of heading all the way back to Kerry have decided to spend the week in between in Donegal. Am familiar with Inishowen, Letterkenny, Buncrana, Ramelton etc so would like to explore some other parts of the county.
Will definitely be going to Glenveagh but any suggestions for other places to see? Gardens, historical sites, etc would be ideal -- and ideas of where to stay would be great too. A small town/village with a few pubs and a restaurant would be fine.
    Many thanks :)

Its a trek to the other end of the county but check out the Slieve League cliffs

Killybegs and Ardara are both nice spots nearby to stay if you fancy.

Ards Forest Park is a great place to spend the day if you happen to get some good weather, some nice long walks through the forest and a great beach that you'll likely nearly have to yourself

The 1st weekend in May is the City of Derry Jazz, Blues and Big Band Festival.

Loads of great music around the city, much of it free too. If a music fan at all, try to get out to see some of this. Getting better every year.

Why not come watch Derry City FC at the Brandywell if they have a home game on one of your weekends? They play on a Friday night.

Stayed in the Creevy Cottages near Ballyshannon last year and really enjoyed the place.Right beside the sea and a lovely hotel at the pierside with restaurant/bar a five minute walk from the house.

Might do that too but after the thrashing Kerry got from Michael Murphy and co. last week in GAA the sight of a bunch of Donegal men with a ball might still be a bit raw :D

.. you'll be ok with the Harps guys though, they have no idea what to do with a football.;)

btw, Derry v UCD, Brandwell, 10th May at 7:45pm, you know it makes sense.

Go west young man. Turn left when exiting Glenveigh and you won't go far wrong.

Dunlewey Lakeside Centre, with lake trip.

    Errigal Mountain.

    Unspoilt and almost deserted beaches.

    Ferry to the islands.

    Public walks.

    Golf courses.

    Angling.

Maybe even a cup of tea with wee Daniel if that floats your boat.

Rosguill Peninsula is really breathtaking - head for Carrigart or Downings villages as a base , explore stunning Atlantic drive ( voted top drive in country by today fm listeners 2 yrs ago ). Lots of self catering ( try coast guard cottages, downings) and hotels ( beach hotel , downings bay or rosapeanna ( fancy ) in downings - glen bar restaurant nearby is fab , harbour bar for music and Craic - if weatger is goid excellent beaches, surfing, kayaking, golf, diving etc - great spot for holidays and close enough to glenveagh and ards forest park - both are well worth a visit ! Pm me if you want more info - I'm from here !
