Best treatment for Sciarid flies / fungus gnats

Sick of these little flies on indoor plants.
Have covered over the top of the pots with a good inch at least of sand, and have been trying to dry out the soil to get rid of the flies/larvae.

I thought chillis would easily outdrought them but the plants are starting to look a little worse for wear now and still have flies, although the numbers have dropped off.

Will be moving house soon and don't want to bring the (pretty harmless but annoying) flies with the plants.

Is there an easily available treatment you can get in Ireland from a garden centre? Any other tips/tricks?

    Any words of wisdom folks?

Tried the glue paper yokes. Caught a few of them. Hoover does a better job, save your money. Numbers went down but they are still around.

All the effective pesticides were taken off the market years ago. Best you can do is repot the plants, removing as much of the top layer of soil as possible, and use a non-peat potting soil.

    OK, thanks.

Any one in particular? Not much of a gardener, just interested in the chillis that come from it!
