Can't believe Star Trek TOS hasn't been mentioned.

The way the show worked it didn't need a wrap up ending, sure it was meant to be a five year mission but each episode was pretty self contained. Plus, if you really want, there's the Animated Series to cover the remaining two years.

Stargate Universe definitely springs to mind, and Stargate Atlantis (still sore over how SyFy treated the franchise).

Angel could have done with one more season rather than leaving it the way they did (though it was wrapped up in comic book form).

Star Trek: Enterprise deserved a better ending than it received, we didn't even get to hear the friggin' speech!

Journeyman showed potential and could have done with a few more seasons, or at least a decent ending to its one season.

Millenium. The X-Files crossover was nonsense.

This immediately sprung to mind for me when I saw the thread...
As much as there's more than a few shows I feel ended before their time, this is the one for me that had so many damn cliffhangers that deserved to be wrapped up.

    My so-called life.

Also ended without any resolution in the 19th episode. I wouldn't want them to do it now because everyone is 15 no 20 years older but even the writers releasing a synopsis of what they had planned would do!!

Some oldies - "Dark Skies" and "Time Tunnel".

Still, there were some other excellent endings for shows that came to a natural conclusion : eg new Battlestar Gallactia, Babylon 5.

    Quantum Leap of course.

Although the tacked-on ending it got only served to make the show even more powerful imho, so maybe it's fine as-is.

    +1 for Pushing Daisies

Would have liked to have seen a bit more of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles too - had just gotten interesting.

Easily the top of my wishlist is a Quantum Leap swan song. I know it had a scheduled finale, but I want Sam to finally leap home, dammit!

John Doe with Dominic Purcell, major cliffhanger at the end of the 1st season, didn't get picked up for the second season. It was crap but it was entertaining crap imho.

Have a Google, one of the writers explained in an interview few years ago the direction they were going to take the show. It was fairly interesting. I'll see can I find it.

Although after all these years its hard to imagine one which could be satisfactory. Damn it anyway, short of a time machine, I think this ship has sailed. Pity it wasnt appreciated in its era.

Twin Peaks did have an ending! ....maybe it just wasn't the ending you wanted but there's a lot of fans out there who thought it was the perfect ending.

If every studio and director was to pander to the needs of fans then we end up with a show like 'Lost' ...forgettable disappointing ending unlike Twin Peaks.

    Lost in Space.

How was that left? I remember it got quite repetitive when I was watched re-runs of it in the 90s so I lost interest in it.

Twin Peaks Did not have an ending. Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger with the expectation of being renewed. The explosion at the bank, etc etc. Just my opinion and I dont think Im alone in that.

David Lynch claims that show ended when the killer was revealed, he never wanted to do this, unfortunately pressure from the studio changed this, they made a huge mistake not listening to Lynch.

After the reveal, the show began to ditch viewing figures and limped to the end, it was given the best possible ending in the circumstances. There was never going to be a third series with the secret revealed. That was the core of the show, none of the surrounding fluff really mattered.

......wasn't it obvious in the finale, Bob did have the last laugh! That was the whole brillance of the ending, the good guy lost and when you consider it was the early 90's, completely unique and unexpected for TV in those days!

It would have to be in the top ten endings of TV series ever.

the great thing about the way season 2 ended is that they could pick it back up in ten years time and have a good explanation as to why they aged and why certain people they couldn't get back on the show died,

its amazing how the concept of Stargate spawned 3 shows spanning 17 season over a 12-13 years period and then it was just killed off like it was,

stargate was getting old in fairness - macgyver looked old and fat bythe end

SGA + SGU both had yrs left in them imo

stargate and all its spin offs were brilliant tv imo

Only show I remember with a decent ending was Stargate - think they had 3 standalone ending episodes in a row to be sure to be sure - then a few movies.

Sure Anderson had effectively left SG-1 in for seasons 9 & 10. Ben Bowder I think took over for him & we got the Ori Arc {such a cool arc}. Then we got the two TV movies. Stargate SG-1 definitely had more life left in it I think.

SG-A definitely had more life left in it, & the planned tv movies & even series crossover movie were a testament to that.

SG-U was only really starting to find its feet & get pretty good. A crying shame we were left with such a cliffhanger.

Also mentions for Space: Above & Beyond, it still holds up even today. I finished watching through it there a few months ago. Never No More will we see or hear anything about Chiggs :(

Assuming this is a thread about proper finales and not just shows you want more seasons of. It's a bit different and, for me, rules out "Firefly" which did wrap up in "Serenity" and, on some levels, "Stargate: Universe". I'd have loved more SGU episodes but the Season 2 finale actually worked as a proper finale too. Ditto for "Sanctuary" and its season four finale.

    Unresolved I'd go with:

Space: Above & Beyond - A bunch of cliff hangers that had no resolution. I don't believe it's ever been finished in any form, with a vague recollection of a couple of paragraphs by Morgan & Wong.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - Brilliant ending to season two which really could have served up a killer third season. Left unfinished though we'll never know what happened next. I think in this case the writers were told they'd have been wise to wrap up but they took a gamble on a third season and lost out.

Deadwood - Some cocksu*kers went and left this unfinished. A crying shame.

Twin Peaks - Season 2 was shaky but it was really picking up by the end and there were a number of plot threads left hanging. Lynch had only ever wanted to use Laura's murder as a back-drop to explore Twin Peaks. Revealing the murder was against his wishes but the finale showed what we could have looked forward to. No real resolution to this either then as "Fire Walk with me" only briefly touched upon the events of the finale.

But SG-U didn't have a proper finale, because the show was unexpectedly cut, the season 2 ender was recut & re-edited to give us the series cliff hanger we actually got.

What was being discussed here was the ending to 'Twin Peaks' not the 'whole feckin series' as you so eloquently put it.

You questioned the ending as leaving unanswered questions, 'Did Bob get the last laugh?'

.....your 'unanswered question' was answered in the final scene (without giving the ending away), yes he did!

I didn't give any opinions regarding the quality of the series. Being a fan of Lynch's work and seen many of his interviews, I understood the leadup to the show being axed, the resulting ending and explained it to you.

Actually started watching this again since last week. The ending was fine per say, in that I suppose it was in line with the vibe of the second series, but therein lies the the problem, in that half way through the second series it turned to nonsense, (Leo as a sort of Frankensteins monster, David Ducovney in a dress, Lynch as the deaf detective), there were recent rumours of an NBC revival:

    http://www.digitalspy.ie/ustv/news/a449035/twin-peaks-revival-nbc-exec-says-no-plans-but-its-a-good-idea.html

But the reason it was so brilliant was the casting and the era it was made in (no tech like mobiles or the net led to the feeling of the town been so isolated) and the TV landscape at the time which made it so revolutionary. Also the cast of young beauties especially Sherilynn Fenn are all in their 40's now, couldn't have a new show without the delightfully sexy Audrey (as she was then)!

Stargate was funny in that it ended a couple of times. There was the season 6 ending which tied up a lot of stuff (though not all) when it made the move to SciFi and they didn't know until quite late that there was going to be a season 7. It ended all over again with the awesome Season 8 closing episodes Reckoning (Part I & II), Threads and Moebius (Part I & II). There quite simply could not have been a better way to end any show than those five episodes. The season 10 and show closing episode I felt was actually the weakest of the bunch but still a good send-off. There was also then a movie to properly finish off the show and wrap up the Ori storyline.

Maybe this is why Atlantis and Universe never got their endings, SG-1 had all the endings.
