Keyboard issue

Hi Guys I have an older yamaha keyboard that says its midi but I plugged it into the laptop and downloaded a windows 8 driver from the yamaha website but the computer doesnt seem to be picking anything up. Anyone have any hints on whether this might just be a non runner or is there something I can check to try and get it…

What kind of keyboard is it? Also how are you conectting it to the pc.
And lastly what are you trying to do , control a software synth ?
