OK, version 7 is more like windows,7,

it can be set linux 1 partition , 7gig.
leaves windows os,documents ,as is ,

    it dual boot,makes a menu,
    up,down,arrow,
    enter,

    SELECT,BOOT windows,or boot mint linux.

    watch this,
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ShbhYytrQ0

    SEE video time
    1.12 ,

do NOT click use entire disk,

    DO NOT USE ENTIRE DISK,

    CLICK Circle box,

    specify partitions manually

,in the install menu, it,ll say

    Make a password user name,

    kEEP it simple,
    eg password joe77
    username,
    computer

    write down the password,
otherwise you,ll be locked out of mint os.

Did you test the hard disk? If it has bad sectors I would reccomend replacing the drive. Also, a simple thing that may help, go into the bios and reset all settings to default, you do this by pressing a key like [del] at the startup and then press [F7] or follow instructions to "restore fail safe defaults". This will rules out any raid/funny hdd config stuff that may be causing your issue. I think the drive is busted though

1.3 gig is probably 64bit, no point in downloading it,
32bit mint is fine for you.

    AND gives you an option,
    dual boot,mode,

    INSTALL mint 7,alongside windows ,

    ie dont erase entire disk,

Set aside ,make 7 gig partition for mint.

I only know of,have experience of one person, company ,that fixes pcs, laptops.
    near santry,dublin ,north.
Price they, charge, 50 euro, per 30 minutes spent on repairs.
i usually ,get parts, fix my own pcs, laptops.
    or build em.
Otherwise ,i,ve have no idea ,who,is good, or bad ,re pc repairs.

if YOU had a windows cd, i reckon it would just,do a setup,
Normal ,install, format drive c; install the os.

IF ram ,or motherboard, was faulty , ubuntu, or a linux livecd would not run in a stable manner.

SamIsta, what's the speed of your internet link? It's normal that linux downloads updates during installation (unless told not to do so) - if you have a slow link it might take a while to download them.

    http://www.adverts.ie/laptops/hp-2510p-laptop-core-2-duo-2-0ghz-1-5gb-80gb-dvd-cd-rw-windows-7/2431002

YOU could buy a dual core laptop,
    150 approx,2gig ram,windows 7,cpu 2.oghz dual core,
,remove the pc drive,or erase it, then maybe get 350euro for the pc,
    ON adverts.ie.
WIN7 dvd costs 95 euro approx.
Plug in the laptop to a monitor ,using vga out port.

HE downloaded mint 12, and ubuntu, i,d say his net connection is fairly fast.

MAKE Sure it was windows license ,key, label , ,if you are buying a laptop.
    on the case.
    http://www.rocomputersystems.nl/windows_7_license.jpg
IN case you need to reinstall the os in future.

A NEW hardrive costs 50euro,approx, 500 gig sata type.

    Hey

I recently bought a new HP with Windows 7 preinstalled. It also came with Windows 8 on 3 discs, however on the discs it says 'Windows 8 for HP'. My question is can I use the discs to install Windows 8 on my other pc, its an acer, or does it have to be a hp?

Any info would be very much appreciated

    Sam

    keep win 7

win 8 is horrible to use
