You'd need to take this up with the forum moderators via PM. Like every other forum, if you have a problem with how something was dealt with, you PM the mod(s) directly to see if you can resolve it before escalating it to this Category's Category Moderator.

@C&T Forum Mods: Please excuse my back-seat modding.

Officially Boards.ie has a "no piracy talk" rule.
isohunt was mentioned ... which lets be honest we all know what its used for. But boards can be an "unusual place" when it comes to what "talk" of piracy is allowed (there is hypocrisy)

For example, many people download new movies then post about watching them in the "what have you watched recently?" thread over in the Films Forum (It's obvious these people downloaded as the movie wouldnt be out on dvd yet) But yet you cant ask where to download these films...

Similiar thing with the "NetFlix recommendations" thread. People post updates about netflix mexico, united states (etc) but yet, you cant ask on how to switch your settings to view other netflix regions.

So mate I wouldnt get too upset about it. It's just the way boards is.

It's hard on us too though. Us unpaid volunteers offer our time to try and help keep the company that runs this site out of court! It's very hard to know what we can and can't say when it comes to .torrent sites who are clearly and obviously breaching copyrights.

BUT there are some legitimate .torrent files up there which are used to distribute open source free operating systems like Ubuntu, openSUSE and so on, but for every legit claim, there are thousands of breaches happening at the same time so we have to try and do our best, and it's all we can do. Our best: To try and help keep lawyer bills as low as possible, among a whole load of other things you wouldn't ever think of until you get your 4 white stars.

@C&T Mods again. Sorry. I won't drag it off-topic again. Just trying to do my best to educate the masses!

Unbeknownst to the regular user, boards receives legal threats on an almost daily basis. Most of the time it's simply from disgruntled ex-users who throw around words like libel or slander but in other cases it has led to situations that have downright threatened the continuance of the website. Boards.ie ltd. does not have the funds to fight a protracted legal battle, and as a direct consequence it is far safer to err on the side of caution. Last thing it needs is a lawsuit from the same companies that don't mind suing the odd Joe-Scapegoat for $10,000 per song.

You see, no company has the bank balance to fight the movie mafia. You will not win if you go to court against them, they have endless money and will crush you. Even the biggest of companies and governments even roll over.

thats the only reason eircom rolled over for the music crowd, they just didnt have the cash to fight it in the courts.

It also shows how retarded the music industry is(as if the pirate bay is the only torrent site!)

Sorry I am only seeing this now. This crops up now and again, talking about sites such as the pirate bay etc. is fine, for e.g talking about the controversies surrounding them. But asking how to use them could be considered "dodgy". As the majority of content on that particular site could be considered "dodgy", I decided it was best to lock the thread. I appreciate it was no ones fault, and no punishments were handed out.
Fwiw the forum charter does prohibit the discussion of torrent sites and how to use them:
    Piracy Discussion (Warez)
Discussion of where and how to engage in piracy is not permitted on this forum, that includes, but is not limited to asking how to "Torrent", "Crack/Keygen/serial" etc. Users will be warned if they post illegal content and expect their thread will be edited/removed by a moderator. Please report such threads to a moderator (see below).
Users may discuss the impact of piracy, morality etc. It goes without saying user's should not link to sites associated with piracy, i.e: Warez Forums or Torrent sites.
    .
Having said that, asking how to use a legitimate torrent site would be perfectly acceptable,

    Nick
