so underwhelmed by the Ents this year.. fair enough there's no student bar which is probably out of their control, but you'd expect more out of them

Yeah the last few years were pretty good in hindsight

I've heard convincing arguments for Lepp racecourse from a few. The O2 would be ****e.

It wont be the o2 heffo already said on his twitter that its not plus when you book a place like the o2 they supply you with nothing other than the venue, ucd would have to pay for everthing else and with the amount it would cost to book to o2 as a venue there would be no money for a stage lighting or the main thing which is acts. We'l find out tomorrow so many rumours going around i don't think any one has the slightest clue, all i know is i'd put all my money on that its not in the o2

I've been told by a good source that it'll be an indoor and outdoor venue, so leopardstown is likely I'd say.

Yup. Apparently a fair bit of unusual activity up there in recent weeks.

Could use in front of the stand for the main gig, 92 and the Pavillion for other acts and bar facilities everywhere.

Havent heard anything as a Westwood member though in fairness.

    Imagine if it were UCD......

    Wut?

Trinity can have their puke fest in the most ancient campus in Ireland, and we can't do it on 300 acres in functional Belfield?

Im thinking simmonscourt in the RDS, would be a perfect venue and just a few minutes away from ucd indoor space is huge and theres quite a big space outdoor as well. Hopefully its a good venue and a decent line up either way i think im going to get myself and early bird ticket tomorrow

Apparently Fianna Fail Ard Feis is on there, or something.

Will someone open a book on this?
I'm sure there's money to be made.
My money would be back on Leopardstown...

Only thing I'm not sure about is exactly how much space is at the front of the Grandstand. On racedays it's fairly packed but not sure if its enough for a gig. 92 and the Pavillion, the walk way around the stand would be perfect for walkabout feel of a festival and secondary gigs.

There's a couple of fields near there as well. One over by Ballyogan but I think that's too far away. There's another huge one along the drive upto the racecourse on the left which is used for parking on racedays. That would have to clear with residents I'd imagine though.

Leopardstown office have said there's no booking of significance that day. Unless they're telling porkies on the phone. As have Citywest, RDS, Croker, and the AVIVA

And the O2 have said the venue in unavailable for booking that day due to 'a private function'

    Money on O2.

Not sure why Heffo would explicitly say on his twitter that people are way off saying there. Lots of messages about the UCD Ball very easy to ignore if people are on the money.

He'de be an idiot to tell people where it is in case people dont like it. I' 100% deny it, especially on a social media. Why risk the sale of the early bird tickets. Of course he denied it.

    Guess we'll see tomorrow

Why? People were asking where it was going to be, guessing about where it was and he decided to answer that Q. No need to lie about it, just ignore it. They did for weeks and weeks.

Probably cause the O2 will be perceived as the venue that will be going away from the 'festival' vibe they're used to..

I still don't get the whole principle of not telling us. It doesn't really add anything of value, nobody's going to be jumping for joy when they finally decide to tell us like.

I'd agree with that. I really don't think it could be the O2. One stage? No festival atmosphere? I'd say most people wouldn't be game for that,

I'd also like to re-iterate that the O2 has NO equipment of its own. No speakers, no lights and no production. Its literally an empty shell. If you play there you have to supply everything. And that is expensive, really expensive. Add to that the acts and your budget is gone. At €35 a ticket and a full house of 4999, you have €175k to play with. That isn't alot by the time you start dividing it up.

The 02? During the day? What a letdown

    Who is the headliner?

Ents posted a video of last years ball, this years will be the polar opposite.

O2 seems like a strange decision.. the previous two balls have had capacities of 5,000 spread across two stages and lots of green space while the sun was mostly shining (and I'm fairly sure tickets were available right up to the events). This one will be in a 14,000 capacity venue with only one stage, the lineup will probably be mediocre and will cost €35. Can see this being way less than half full which will mean it will be really lacking in atmosphere sadly.

They sold 1500 tickets in 40 minutes without a line up I'd imagine unless the lineup is ridiculously bad they'll sell plenty !

you were saying ;) Disappointed with the O2, Outdoors > Indoors

Fairly shocked it's the O2 but I stand corrected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,633 ✭✭✭✭errlloyd

I guess they got it real cheap or close to free. As I said pages ago, the irfu were able to play some of the rugby games in the o2 last year with free admission, so they must have got it dirt cheap.

most people I knew are fairly up in the air about going, the appeal of the ball was the festival like atmosphere with the hopefully nice weather etc.

and indoor event during the day in the O2 is nothing like that.

Doors at 5pm means it's the exact same as any other gig in the O2. It's a nighttime show folks. Indoor.

    :(
