Purchasing a property is the biggest financial decision that most people will make.
Having full information or as much as possible before making this decision will allow people to make better decisions.

Why are crime statistics not made available on a per station basis?
Would you use them to help you decide on purchasing a property?

When you input your postcode, town, village or street, you’ll have instant access to street-level crime maps and data, as well as details of your local policing team and beat meetings.

You will also be able to find out how the police are tackling the problems in your area, and what you can do to help. The street-level crime map identifies types of crime including:

    burglary
    criminal damage and arson
    drugs
    other theft
public disorder and possession of weapons
    shoplifting
    robbery
    vehicle crime
    violent crime
    antisocial behaviour (ASB)
    other crime
    all crime
    Why create street-level maps?

Police.uk is a key part of the government’s wider policing and justice reform agenda which seeks to increase the transparency and accountability of the criminal justice system (CJS). The police no longer look to government for their targets and priorities but rather to local communities and the police and crime commissioner who will represent their community. Crime maps, along with access to crime and justice data and the introduction of police and crime commissioners, will help the public to hold their local police and other public services to account.

    Different example from the US.

The US one shows crimes like burglaries with the address included while the UK does a street by street view rather than specific houses.

The problem in creating such a map here is that we have an under-developed post code system for map these crimes.

By the way, I suggest that you don't live with family or friends - these are the people most likely to kill you. :)

Most of our addresses come up in google maps so that could be used. It wouldn`t need to be as detailed as the LA map.

Google Maps is a very blunt instrument. On average it is right, but it detail it can be very wrong.

Lets take some roads in the Marino area in Dublin City.

    Road Length (km)
    Croydon Park Avenue 0.458
    Croydon Terrace 0.099
    Fairview Avenue Lower 0.162
    Fairview Avenue Upper 0.181
    Fairview Court 0.000
    Fairview Green 0.253
    Fairview Terrace 0.107
    Haverty Road 0.191
    Malahide Road 6.000
    Marino Green 0.338
    Marino Park 0.430
    Marino Park Avenue 0.140
    Merville Avenue 0.224
    Morrogh Terrace 0.050
    Philipsburgh Terrace 0.317
    Shelmartin Avenue 0.560

In fairness An Garda Siochana should have a spatial database to analyse the huge amounts of data they gather.
