    Be careful of what?

We have to respect every nation's right to govern the way they see fit. Nobody can expect nations on different continents with peoples from different backgrounds to think alike on any number of issues.

However, while these crimes are certainly horrific, I tend to put these events into perspective by looking at the world from a slightly different light. Since 2000 we have had 2 Tsunamis that have swept 300,000 Indonesians and 10,000 Japanese away in a matter of minutes. We had a hurricane that devastated almost the entire gulf coast of the US and killed 1,000 in New Orleans. alone. We had an attack on the US that killed 3,000 in 2001. Haiti had an eartquake in 2008 that killed 300,000. Recently, we had an asteroid come within 20,000 miles of earth (hair's width in a solar system), on the same day a meteor exploded over Russia causing mass chaos and damages.

In a nation of 300 million laden 100-200 million guns depending upon which statistic you believe, 320 persons were murdered with rifles in 2011, 8,500 total murdered by guns. 32,000 were killed in auto accidents. Below are an interesting couple of maps regarding gun ownership and murder in the world:

I've never heard of anyone being able to control tsunamis or earthquakes.

Why or how would they be upset by a debate on American gun control?

Have you ever seen the attitude displayed on the journal about firearms ownership before ? Not positive is an understatement.

Given so many are dying in natural disasters, we should ban guns in order to reduce that 8,500 figure to compensate.

Worst thing about the Journal.ie is its not even printed on paper!! :mad:Otherwise it could put it to good use in the WC.

If you can ever use anything that I post, by all means appropriate whatever you want. Value judgements in a society and by their political leaders are what they are, and so are numbers.

    What does that mean?

I think he means on any subject there is your opinion, someone else's opinion and then the cold, hard facts.
