We usually go down to the Roots festival every year and stay for a night or two. This year the hotels are either booked up or quoting €370.00 for two nights bed and breakfast per room add in food and a few drinks parking ect. for four of us and we are up to €1000.00 for two days .Complete rip off the hotels are half the price the following week we could stay in the Burlington hotel in Dublin on the same dates for €99.00 per night .

Small town + big event = bed shortage.

Perhaps look at B&B's just on the edge of Kilkenny?

As someone who graduated in hotel management, that would be how it works. Hotels don't make much when they're charging less the rest of the year and rely on a good season and one or two big events to make money. The hotel industry really isn't the best industry to get into if you want to make money as costs are very high.

Have a look here. Those are bed and breakfast and might not have a high standard but allyou really need those days is a bed to sleep in.Youse will be on the go most of the day anyway. And not to mention that the rooms are much cheaper compared to a hotel

I have just been online looking at Hotels in Kilkenny for 2 nights over the May bank holiday weekend. There is plenty of availability in Kilkenny over that weekend ranging from €160 in a B&B for two nights, €218 for 2 nights in a three star Hotel and up to a maximum of €350 for 2 nights in a five star hotel.

Indeed I cant find a standard Hotel bedroom more expensive than the €350 quoted by the 5 star Hotel for 2 nights. I think you need to check your facts.

I think you need to check your facts.

Its for four people I think :)
Why don't you add a link for the user who is looking for the room.
I am sure he would appreciate it.

Check www.kilkennytourism.ie or www.booking.com. There's plenty of availability in Kilkenny at very reasonable rates.
