Driver also has a previous four year ban. Nice to know I'm sharing the road with drivers of this calibre. Even nicer to know they avoid jail and drive again sometime in the future.:mad:

Na, it seems that the ban came into effect shortly after this incident. It does show that she has form when it comes to reckless driving.

No she knocked over a retired man off his bike left him with serious injuries and pleaded guilty in court in October 2010..then got banned from driving for failing to give a breath sample in December 2010(so she was drunk) yet she still gets no punishment and will be back on the road in less than 2 years..lovely.

How can she be allowed back on the road like this??

A friend of mine knocked over an old lady, there was no mention in the paper and no talk of all of a jail sentence. His insurance had to make a payout. That's all.

Somebody needs to look at this judge to see if they are fit to sit in judgement going forward, a disgraceful sentence and some of his comments are unforgivable as the injured party is still very much suffering.

There should be some sort of 'fitness to practice' hearings for a judge like this. In many other professions if you make a mistake/judgement as bad as this particular case, you'd be hauled up in front of one very quickly and suspended until so. Making judges accountable and not virtually invincible is the way forward.

Well, that is one of the problems with a democracy. You can't truly have nobody fully accountable if they hold a position of power.

Who in turn, is able to allow judges the ability to practice, when they themselves would be deemed to be the most qualified in the profession?

King, a mother of two, of Riverside, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing serious harm on Monastery Road, Clondalkin on October 16, 2010.

She had one previous conviction for failing to give a breath sample and was banned from driving for four years in December 2010.

If she hit the guy in October 2010 then that was before this was it not ?

When I read this earlier I thought; well maybe the wing mirror clipped his bike and sent him flying. If she had on her fans trying to clear her windscreen, it's very likely she wouldn't have heard anything.

But then, later in the story, it says that the passer who came on the man picked up the pieces off plastic, etc from her car..... so it was clearly a violent enough bang.....there is no way in fcukin hell you could just dismiss that kind of noise and think it's something not serious enough to stop and investigate. And you'd feel it in the car, lying b****.

I'd say gender has nothing to do with this except perhaps he took the fact she was the sole carer for her kids into account.

After reading that article, I was slightly annoyed (and relived for the guy) that the reporting of mild brain damage seemed to be a bit sensationalist although that's not to excuse the driver in any way.

Looks like Judge McCartan has a soft spot for hit and run drivers, at least when cyclists are involved.

(before anyone says it, the cyclist obviously should have been lit up but that in no way excuses killing someone and driving on)

TBH that sentence was a pretty good one. I wonder if exile would be a better deterrent to crime than imprisonment?
