NPPR charge, help please

Hi all,

First time poster so if this is in the wrong forum I apologise. I see a lot of people here are well versed on taxation etc and I can't find info pertaining to my situation on NPPR website.

Here is the situation. I rented a house out I own last June/July and left Ireland. Am I correct in saying that I should now pay NPPR charge effective from March 31st?

Also I have a second house which my grandmother resided in. This was in joint names so was exempt from NPPR as it was her principal place of residence. She passed away last month and I suspect perhaps I am liable for NPPR on this now too or no?

I sent an email to Council and they want to know has probate been granted. What does this mean?

You need to pay the NPPR this year along with the 6 month local property tax. Next year there is no NPPR charge.

The second property, i'm not sure about but i'd imagine you are liable.

I contacted council and they wanted to know has probate been granted yet on second house. I have no idea what hes talking about

Who is dealing with your grandmothers estate? Was there an Executor named in the will? If so, they will go through the probate process, or instruct a solicitor to assist.

If you were joint tenants then the house will not enter probate at all. The house simply belongs to the survivors, in this case, you alone. If this is the case then you're liable for the NPPR with immediate effect I believe. It's the last year of the NPPR so you're not getting hit too badly.

The rental property is clear. You're liable for the NPPR for this year.
