Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

When Archbishop McQuaid Ruled Ireland

Catholicism filled the post-war vacuum. Somebody had to do it. At least the church applied some sort of order on society and must be given credit for the good things that they did.

If anything, it's the spirit of Vatican II that caused monsters such as Robert Doherty.

Historical revisionism surrounding "McQuaid" serves nobody other than those who seek to knock the church.

Wow, that has to rank as one of the most asinine comments I've seen on boards.

Presumably the vacuum caused by the loss of the certainties of fascism.

While individuals have done good works in the name of the catholic church in Ireland the hierarchy, particularly under McQuaid, sought to turn us into a sectarian theocracy, with some, though thankfully limited, success.

The democratisation of education of the last 40 years and the freedom of access to information of the last 20 have essentially destroyed their monopoly on the formation of individuals and as a result the theocracy is on its last legs.

We expect a bit more opinion when starting a thread rather than 2 links with very little direct connection. More suited to a blog or twitter post.
