Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Are you addicted to boards?

Sorry if this has been done before. I am addicted to boards. I constantly think of things to post (but don't post most of them), I constantly read the newsfeed (if you can call it that) for After Hours and I constantly subscribe to interesting threads to see what's going on. I have to check it every day. If I don't then I get boards withdrawl symptoms. I go on boards more than facebook. So fellow boardsies, are you addicted?

No, I'm not. When I see a poster with 10,000+ posts I feel sorry for them. Do these people have a life?

I don't know. Could be heading that way, though. I'm on every day, and Facebook has lost a lot of its interest for me. It's just a genius idea having a forum about everything that is only a forum, as opposed to a forum for specific topics on a related website i.e. motorbike forum on motorbike website, farming forum on a farming website.
It seems like boards is a good place to discover and learn new things.

You joined this month and you have a higher post rate than me, so you're a noob and you have no life. Poor thing.

    Here, have a cookie.

No. I often don't look at it for days or weeks. I have been posting more often in the last while though but that's because I'm procrastinating instead of doing a particular task I should be at.

Completely, first thing I do every morning when I get to work is go through my 4 of 5 favourite forums and same before going to sleep at night. If im posting on topic I can barely go 15 mins without checking back into the thread. Boards is worse the the rest of the internet combined for my productivity.

Not addicted to it as much as I used to during the Celtic Tiger era; back in the day us Private Sector workers had a job that paid more than the public sector.
Now I am obliged to post quality well paragraphed posts.

I'm hooked. Wasn't so bad until I got a smart phone but now always on it. I even flick through it in the mornings to help me wake up and in bed before sleeping.

No one knows the extent! !

When I first started reading boards it was just on my computer so I'd only read it every so often.

Then technology and smart phones and Ipod touches took over and that's when I became a boards addict. I'm still only averaging around 3 posts a day though which isn't bad but I'd only regularly post in AH and 9/10 it's just for the craic.

Question I'd like to ask for the boards long termers is: at any stage have you got bored of it and just said fock them fockers or would you still check it everyday religiously?

I routinely lose interest in Boards for a few months and pop back in randomly and find myself addicted again.

The forums can be pretty repetitive, especially AH. You can pretty much anticipate what topics you'll see and what the responses will be before even turning on the computer.

But it's fun at the same time. And I've learnt quite a bit from various posters.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,106 ✭✭✭catallus

I've used boards for just over two years now and while I wouldn't say I'm addicted it does take up a fair amount of my web-time; but then I only post in between when I'm waiting for the next picture in YouLaughYouLose.

With regards to the quality of the forums, I do tend to see the same topics recycled a few times, but that's the nature of forums everywhere; what bugs me is that when a poster starts a thread and wants input from others, invariably more long-termers jump on it and say it has been done before or if it is perceived to be a contentious issue then it is spammed by "ibtl" and "this will end well" and is therefore instantly derailed.

A lot of the time a thread will just turn into an echo-chamber; which is unavoidable on a site such as this.

On the other hand, some topics are just not up for discussion at all, and I guess that's fair enough, nobody needs another 4Chan on the loose (God bless 4Chan!).
