    As a non-Dub I think there are two outstanding candidates

    1. Det. James 'Lugs' Brannigan, legendary Garda (mentioned previously)
    2. Con. James Sheahan who died nearby in the course of his duty. His statue is temporarily removed from the Hawkins Street side of the river but will be reinstated in due course.

    Rory Gallagher Bridge

    Or

    Dr. Noel Browne Bridge

    As far as any rules about people being invalid for consideration, I think that's a load of nonsense if a person is deserving.

    It's a newspaper poll, a populist newspaper too so it's results aren't surprising.

    Hamilton didn't make the shortlist unfortunately but for me, Ernest Walton is just as good.
