Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I am helping with research on an article about buying Irish and modern consumer trends. Having spent 10 years in the states I have found the Irish consumer to be different from the US shopper

Can you tell me if or why you would choose an Irish product when offered a choice?

Good value and quality are the primary factors that determine any purchase I make, were they are manufactured and by who doesn't matter

if I would choose an Irish product given a choice .... that all depends on whether I consider the product to be local or if the company involved has a reputation.

I would purchase and do purchase a homemade apple tart in my local shop simply because I know its a homemade apple tart and not some confectionary company putting homemade on the label....and the reason I purchase in the local shop is because there are locals working in it, people that I will pass in the street on the way to and from mass on a Sunday or while I'm out walking the dog.

As a generalisation Irish consumers are driven by advertising a good strong advertising campaign will sell your product regardless of whether your product is needed or not Irish people will purchase if they know their neighbours have one, if a relation has recently purchased of even if there are rumours that its a good product.

however in order to sell in the Irish market you have to provide a quality product at a price which is below cost in other countries, Irish people love to complain about the price of a product if it can be found in another country at a cheaper price !! (its usually referred to as a rip-off Ireland price .... find something at a fraction of the price in a different economy and blame the shops here for ripping people off !!...of course, some shops will try to increase their mark-up price so will try to increase their profit margin and perpetuate the myth)
