Yea defo crinoid stem fragments/plates alright. Same for the "screw" in one of the other links on that page. I've Irish examples that look similar. I'll try and dig up some pics.

The Antikythera mechanism though incredible is explainable.

OK here ya go. Irish example I collected yonks ago of a 300 million year old, lower carboniferous "screw". Ohmigaawd!!:)

Basically a crinoid stem. As they decay after death or due to later erosion of the fossil, the outer casing sloughs off revealing the inner anatomy, so you do see these "screws" quite a bit. On that rock alone there are two more on the back(this is the clearest).

EDIT compare to the one in the link

    Same age and size too.

Its more a case of why 'screws' & other seemingly manufactured items were found in apparent 400 Million year old fossil samples...but its perfectly explainable because they are natural formations :)

Read about these recently and can not even start to understand how to explain them. No answers to 400 million year old machine fossils found in coal http://brazilweirdnews.blogspot.ie/2012/03/machine-dated-at-400-million-years.html or the Antikythera mechanism.

The Antikythera mechanism is definitely not anachronistic, Archimedes has been proposed as a potential crafter of that absolutely wonderful find.

Bohernabreena Reservoir south side of Dublin many moons ago. They're fairly common in many outcrops of Carboniferous limestone of which we've a lot in Ireland.
