Let's not take anything away from the lads though - I thought it was over after the 1st but what an amazing comeback in the first half.

Trap as usual f&cks it up in the last third though by doing nothing but standing there!

Ya they had given us 100%,the legs were gone but the lad on the sideline couldn't see it for some reason and we paid the price

Here we go with Dunphy playing to the clueless section of the audience.

Nothing to do with subs, the players just starting sitting deeper and deeper, didn't matter who you had on the park.

A lot of people here being shown up as clueless by saying that Trap couldn't have made better substitutions.

Thats what happens when you take off forwards and bring on defenders/defensive midfielders

That last free kick, what were they doing. Should have just kept it in the corner.

    Sickening...so sickening.

Yep headless stuff. All too regular with this group unfortunately. No cool heads out there.

We were on the back foot for a half an hour and he did **** all, the players were on their legs and he did **** all for changes bar paul green for our best player on the pitch. Trap shoulders some of the blame here

    Subs were brutal

    Sack him. It's that simple.

How we stayed 442 with 3 exhausted players I'll never know. Tactically inept.

    Sack him.

Are we seriously blaming trap for a wondergoal that one of the Irish players should've blocked...

Have to say i'm a supporter of Trap but you could see Sammon was out on his feet yet he brought Long off who seemed fresh. No problem with Green coming on but it should have been Green and Hoolahan on for Sammon and Walters.

We didn't need to get a third we just needed to hold onto the ball and stop them scoring .

Rubblish, a third goal would have killed off this game and destroyed any hope.

A team can always fight to come back from one down.

That goal was coming for 45 minutes.

How anyone can't question Trap after we waited and waited for a sub when a few players looked out on their feet, take our best player off for Greene with absolutely no tactical change, I find mind boggling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,562 ✭✭✭Downlinz

Why was green playing? Heartbreaking. Why the **** didn't trap change things up. **** sake

We're 1 goal up and we brought on a defensive midfielder for a forward. Do you seriously want an explanation?

What? There is nothing wrong with doing that. BUT, Green off and Walters up top is baffling. It literally gives us nothing more.

We're blaming him for leaving knackered players out there instead of bringing on subs, leading to us sitting back more and more until the inevitable goal came

James McCarthy a player who everyone has shouted and screamed about him that he HAS to be picked,He is one of our most creative players etc... very similar to the talk about Hoolihan now

McCarthy booted the ball away 20 seconds before the equaliser...All Traps fault

Yes, it's a wondergoal that should never have come to fruition, if trap had made some decent subs and tried some ball retention instead of heaping it up to conor ****ing sammon then things might be different, but instead we retreated into our shell and enabled them to push us back more and more.

No, for his tactic of sitting back and not taking game by the scruff of the neck and destroy opposition.

No. I'm blaming Trap for the second half performance. We had no ambition to try get a third, no ambition to hold possession and see it out.

We never ever ave been able to close games out

Why was long taken off and sammon left on is beyond

St ledger isnt the first cousin of an international player.

Wes hoolahan must be scratching his head

Trap got it wrong big time tonight

lol qualification is by no means over, Sweden at home and this Austrian side are more than beatable away. Get a grip it's not over, it's been made a lot more difficult now but by no means over.

We needed another central midfielder on earlier. Trap should have taken Sammon off and left Long on. Long had far more energy than the tired Sammon.

Our players were very tired and yet we only played two subs???

DID YOU ACTUALLY WATCH THE THIRTY MINUTES BEFORE THAT? JUST BECAUSE IT WAS A ****ING WONDER GOAL IN THE 93RD MINUTE DOESN'T ****ING MATTER. IT WAS COMING. IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IN THE SEVENTIETH MINUTE.

No I'm blaming him for looking at that second 45 minutes and not deeming it appropriate to make substitutions to change the flow of the game.

he played green right wing and pushed walters up, still shocking tho.

Eh, never mind taking off the wrong players and making mad positional changes, if he'd just used the last sub the time would have ran out!

Everyone out on their feet. Injury time. Hanging on. Only using two subs.

Trap, u fool. Why u cudn't use Hoolahan tonight makes no sense...playing Sammon for 90 mins made no sense. Green for Long wtf?? Trap out now please

This isn't a knee-jerk reaction type post (of which I'm sure there'll be many in the next couple of hourse) but Austria deserved that. I'm sorry but we started poorly and Austria took the lead, Ireland then dominated and took the lead before half time. For the second half, and in particular for the last 20 minutes, we had our backs to the wall... at home... to Austria.

Again, when we were behind and needed a goal we were excellent. Trappatoni negative tactics come into effect and we were the cause of our own demise. He had the entire second half to make positive substitutions but he took off Long for Greene. Honestly, trying to hold on at home to Austria is a bit much and despite what Trap might think that is not a reflection of the players we have at our disposal, it's a reflection of his tactical decisions.

Trap should have been gone after our showing Euro 2012. I had hoped he would be more positive at home to Austria but alas, he has failed to learn (no surprises there). I still hope we qualify under Trap, and am by no means calling for his head during qualification, but if we don't qualify I hope a manager with a more positive approach is hired rather than one who parks the bus for results regardless of the opposition.

I'm blaming Trap for that one. He has to realise that this isn't some expensively assembled Juve back line.

If we focus on playing the last 25 minutes of a game without the ball, we will concede against half decent opposition.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,533 ✭✭✭Colonialboy

Trapattoni returned to management in the German Bundesliga in June 2005, by signing at Stuttgart. However, during his 20 games at the helm, Stuttgart produced poor results. Danish Internationals Jon Dahl Tomasson and Jesper Gronkjaer openly criticized their coach, claiming he was afraid to attack...

no harm no foul as long , dont worry punters as long as john Delaney gets his 500k a year ....

Fair play to the new lads who showed what they can do when given a chance , even if that chance was forced on Trap.
    Traps a clown.

Yes. Salmon is nothing on long, he should have been taken off, not long. And to bring green on, and play him out the right. I want to know the thought process behind it.

We got away with the tactic of inviting the opposition onto us time and again in the last campaign, lady luck is catching up with us now. Even Brady is saying it should have been Holohan for Sammon 'ffs'.

Easy on the old caps. 15 seconds more and it's "a ok".

Yeah I'm sure you would have been gutted with a 2-1 win.
