Would you cut off a limb to save your life?

    Let's imagine:

Your bed has collapsed because you were jumping on it too vigorously. You fell through the springs and got your arm caught.

In the meantime, the cheese sandwich that you were toasting has touched the grill and caught fire.

Your arm is trapped inside the former bed, and the fire is spreading all over your home. You can see the smoke coming into the bedroom, and the temperature is rising.

You can't get free - but - there is a glass nearby that you can reach with your non-trapped arm. You could cut yourself free...

Myself - I would stay stuck and hope for the best.

Would glass cut through bone? A lot of mess and pain for nothing if it wouldn't.

It's pretty unrealistic for a 5 year old to be using the grill all by themselves...

But I'd definitely lose a limb as opposed to dying in a fire.

I'd burn alive anyway before managing to cut myself with a piece of glass, I'll stay put so.

I glanced at the poll and thought the first option was "did it before once".

Surely it'd cut through a mattress more easily

I keep my phone in my pocket so I'd use my free arm to get that and call the Fire Brigade

It's one of those Kryptonite-Duratanium composite mattresses, not very comfy but much good for back.

Stop ruining things with your logic

Choose. Your arm or your life.

Probably my arm considering I'd freak out and then die of smoke inhalation before working myself up to it, or while trying to call 999 and cutting the bed

I've no idea if I could cut off a limb to save my life.

I had to give myself anti-coagulant injections for a months while I was waiting for surgery while I was on warfarin (was meant to be a week but the surgery was put back for 3 more weeks). Warfarin takes days to get out of your system but Clexane is out in less than 12 so they switch you to clexane injections pre-surgery and stop it 18 hours before surgery so you don't bleed out on the table.

Anyway, I couldn't even bring myself to give myself the fecking injections without a 45 minuts struggle and minor panic attacks most days.

I couldn't imagine how I'd cope having to saw my arm off...

This is why celebrating an impending cheese toastie is the cause of so much death in our culture.

Self injecting is something that gets normal Seaneh, the trick is to not mind that it hurts.

Pro tip : if you cut off your arm, take it with you so it can be sewn back on.

Glass is for cissies. I'd chew it off and spit out the splinters of bone.

real answer: I'd p1ss myself so bad the fire would go out.

Why would you jumping on your bed in the first place? what height are you 4ft?

Another cheese related death. *Shakes head sadly.*

This reminds me of Charles hawtree ( carry on films)
Big smoker and got a disease called peripheral vascular disease caused from smoking like a trooper
Doctor told him they'd have to amputate his legs to save him and He refused, allegedly saying he preferred to die with his boots on, and died almost a month later, aged 73.

Why wouldn't you jump on the bed? We're all adults here - we're allowed to do this now.

I would die of smoke inhalation long before I was able to cut through my arm with a piece of broken glass.

But use the wet end to beat out the fire first.

A little charred, but still good.

The toaster has already gone up in flames. It's you or the arm.

Limb or life? I choose life, I could live without an arm

But, I'd be concerned about bleeding out too

I'm just gona go right ahead and ignore the cheese scenario here. But ye I would cut off my own limb to save my life.

I've a better one though....at the start of 'vertical limit', a brother and sister are climbing with their father, the son has to sacrifice the father and cut him loose in order to save the lives of himself and his sister, there's no time to really think about the situation, it's do or die........I don't think I could do that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,391 ✭✭✭Mysteriouschic

I don't think I could cut my arm off I'd be too squeamish about cutting it and think about how much it would hurt and the amount of blood you'd lose it's not worth it.
I'm more likely to just leave it and not cut my arm off if such situation would occur.

Eh, I've seen plenty of pornos where there was no costume change. Unless you count wearing a white mask towards the end?
