Got Gassiev and Lebedev too, and potential FOTY candidate in Salido Miura

Badou Jack - James Degale 14th January

Danny Garcia - Keith Thurman March 4th.

Good to see Garcia stepping up, he's had a lot of soft touches recently but this is a cracking fight.

No venues there but DeGale and Frampton fights in Vegas. Seen both of them this year so wont be travelling!

But apparently Garcia v Thurman will be in Brooklyn so aim to attend that.

Showtime doing well here with these impressive lineups.

Paul Smith is going to be fighting Tyron Zeuge for the WBA super middle weight title in March. Eddie Hearn is some ****ing wizard to have pulled out a title shot for Smith.

If Paul Smith wins and is labeled a WC I will puke!

168 division has really fallen to sh*t in recent years. Granted Froch and Kessler are retired and guys like Abraham are well passed it, it has really fallen to crap with Ward vacating leaving a tonne of belts to be fought by subpar guys. Zurdo Ramirez looks to be a gem though.

Zeuge is not much to write home about from the 2 fights I have seen him in. If Smith is serious and gets in proper shape he would have a decent shot.

The WBA have ordered Shannon Briggs vs Fres Oquero for the HW title. Hard to see where they pulled this one from, the Oquero chap hasn't fought in 2 & a half years. Was there no one better that they could have thrown in against Briggs?

Briggs wants the fight to take place in London which is probably a good move by him to keep him in sight of Haye & Joshua.

Just looking that Joshua vs Klitschko is for the WBA Super World HW title so is the Briggs vs Oquero fight actually a world title fight? Honestly the WBA are just stealing from the old Street Fighter series with their title names at this point.

Sullivan Barrera just accepted an IBF eliminator with Beterbiev. Really looking forward to this one.

Credit to Barrera for having the balls to take the fight but this will end in an early KO, Beterbiev might just be the best LHW there is right now.

David Lemieux v Curtis Stevens scheduled for 11 March.

Now that's guaranteed fireworks! Well worth waiting up for if it's going to be covered over here.

Wilder's Polish opponent popped by VADA for stanozolol. They're looking for a replacement.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Plenty of nobodies for Wilder to choose and you can bet it will be a nobody.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,131 ✭✭✭Burial.

Love how everyone refers to him as "Polish opponent" and not his name. Just shows how poor a fight it was. Rumours Gerald Washington will step in. Funnily enough Parker tweeted a raised hand emoji while linking an article of Wilder looking for a new opponent. Breazeale and Ugonoh are on the undercard, with the former being an obvious choice as a replacement.

Seems Katie Taylor was due to fight on the Golovkin-Jacobs undercard at Madison Square Garden. Top Rank went nuts and blocked it because Conlan is making his debut there the night before. Afraid all the Irish would go to see Taylor instead.

Not sure why she doesn't just fight the night before.

So it look likes Brook - Spence will be happening. Can't see Brook winning that one.

Peterson v Avanesyan on now. Cautious first round with Peterson wearing short trunks! He's only fought once since I saw him lose to Garcia on Andy's undercard almost 2 years ago.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭SHOVELLER

Very enjoyable competitive fight and UD for Peterson the new WBA Welterweight Champion.
Real phone booth fight but kudos to the Russian who stood toe to toe but Peterson's bodywork and experience down the straight proved the difference.
Some bizarre moments with loose ropes and some wrestling moves!
Peterson now looking to fight the winner of the Garcia v Thurman fight. If so he will need to bring his energy to all of the fight instead of the latter rounds.

Broner up now. His recent interviews have come off as more humble and respectful but he's now dancing to the ring in a balaclava! His purse is $1m tonight so we'll see if he's switched on to beat his friend Granados.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭SHOVELLER

Great absorbing fight. Granados showed no fear and Broner again showing a lack of concentration through rounds.
Broner split decision in a very close fight. Home town decision arguably and it could have been a draw.
Good pace but Broner looked shattered at the end and still talking ****e in interview saying it was easy.
Granados wants a rematch in Chicago.

  • Registered Users Posts: 55,525 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Broner just isn't elite at WW. He gets murdered against the best at WW. Not strong enough, and doesn't have the power or defence necessary. Tight fight last night against a sparring partner.

In fairness I thought Lamont beat Danny the first time. I'm hoping Thurman beats Garcia March 4th if only for the look on Angel Garcias face and his comments afterwards.
