Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Absolutely correct but but a lot of people like Roosters rather than washed baby potatoes. Many shops are now circa €10 for 10kg of roosters .

1kg of Whites are 29c in Aldi at the mo & are the 'proper sized' spuds.I prefer Roosters but at that price feck it.

Plus you can always buy 1 bag and try them first.... no risk at 29c. Should be fine for mash.

    Sorry only saw Roosters !

McCarrens process pigs and the spuds were in their factory shop.

They also sell one of Cavan’s best kept secret “ Griskins” . Griskins taste like mini pork fillets and about the size of chicken goujons There are only 2 griskins per pig ( meat from the leg H bone) and they cost about €6 a kilo.
Cooked by covering in flour and rolling in melted butter and then placed in grill pan without grid for about 10 minutes each side on a high setting until slightly crispy on outside! … Just made myself hungry :)

Perfect for mash (as of yesterday). Ok, but not great, for chips (as of today)

Aldi in UK are doing the same spuds, 49p for only 750g, so for once we are getting a better deal than them. At todays exchange rates and adjusting the price per Kg they are paying 76c compared to our 29c.

I've too much time on my hands. Now the match...

We seem to do way better on fruit and vegetable offers than the UK judging by what I see on HUKD.

Plan on stocking up on the potatoes from Aldi at that price. I did the same at christmas time and emptied them from the plastic bags into a shallow cardboard box (like the ones the veg come in lidl/aldi) and put into a cupboard in utility room.

Here's a good tip using leftover mashed potatoes.
shape it into portions using the ice cream scoop, place on a tray in the freezer. It microwaves really quickly from frozen so you can always have a bit of potato with your dinner if you are short on time.
