What've I met, lemme see... Am going to list these alphabetically so I don't leave any out.

    Abyssinian
    Australian Mist
    Bengal
    Birman
    Burmese
    British Shorthair
    Cornish Rex
    Devon Rex
    Maine Coon
    Norwegian Forest Cat
    Persian
    Ragdoll
    Russian Blue
    Scottish Fold
    Siamese
    Tonkinese
    Turkish Van

...and of course a broad and stunning variety of shapes and sizes of that marvellous cat, the Domestic Short Hair. :) (And no small number of Domestic Long Hairs either.)

Not all of these were in marvellous circumstances unfortunately. The Turkish Vans, for instance, were out of a mass rescue from a BYB household where she was the breeder, the couple split up and she left and left him with the cats. He didn't know what to do with them. By the time they were rescued they were half starved. The BSHs were from an elderly woman whose retirement village wouldn't let her keep two cats (only one) and she hadn't the heart to split them up - so they both came into no-kill rescue to be rehomed as a pair.

The Russian Blue was a neglected cat that an old neighbour decided to misappropriate, after pretending it had been killed on the road. It got a new family, neutered, wormed, vaccinated, care and attention and so on - and my god it absolutely farkin hated me. Maybe I smelled like too many other cats? Not sure. Bloody thing bit me every time it got a chance. It loved blokes, disliked women, and hated me.

The Norwegian Forest Cat was a grand old lady who was the heart-cat of the woman who ran the rescue. That was a BIG cat.

Both of the Rex varieties were owned by a breeder. I do think they look like wee gremlins, but they have marvellous personalities.

If I were to go out tomorrow and buy myself a pedigree cat, it'd be a blue Abyssinian. I think the most beautiful cat I've ever seen in my life was a blue Abyssinian. You know when you see a picture of a pet and something in you just resonates? I saw pics, then met one, and now I'm just besotted.

/edited to add, reckon one of the reasons I love 'blue' cats is that I, too, have a ticked tabby - except mine is an unfortunate mongrel. :) This is a previously-shared picture of Sasquatch, who's a blue Burmese crossed with a random DSH tom. He's also a rescue out of a BYB whose son reported his antics and caused the local ranger to confiscate his cats.

A stunning looking cat! He is gorgeous! Blue Aby's are really nice, not too many over here.

I dotn think we have any mists in Ireland as yet. I havent met one but saw some in the UK at a show. :-)

Thats a nice list of peds, such a shame most were in such states. Very sad.

When I was in my teens we adopted a lovely long haired orphan kitten. She was mostly grey/brown/black tabby with a white chest and a huge fluffy tail. Around the same time I was give a poster of cat breeds and I discovered that she looked EXACTLY like the Maine Coon on the poster. I was convinced for ages that that's what she was.

Unfortunately, what the poster couldn't tell me is that Coons are very large cats and little Mitzie tipped the scales at around 3kg. :o But ever since then I've wanted one - some day!

The only breed I've knowingly met is a Siamese. There was one at the vets a few months ago and he certainly lived up to the breed reputation of being very vocal. He chatted away to me the whole time I was waiting.

Lol, yes Coons are huge! Males weighing up to 10kg and females 7kg. They are very long too.
My Snowshoe comes from the siamese family and will have a full blown conversation with you. He can also say his name. Its very funny!

I would love a Maine coon, I love the slightly wild look and the size, I actually was considering one when Mouse turned up and I fell for her, she's a gorgeous long haired blue kitten, from feral stock, mother is a tabby.
I always had a thing for ginger cats, we have one called Jake, and I love grey/blue cats, Jakes brother was a lovely blue and silver cat called Harry, had a tint of ginger in patches, and loveable as hell, sadly died aged 7, the youngest I ever lost a cat.
To be honest I just love animals, personality is a big thing for me.
I grew up in London and met lots of breeds, wanted a Siamese until I got to know one, but I think they need a lot of attention, maybe when I have more time and less animals!
Sweeper, your boy is beautiful, a little like Harry, but he had more stripes and colour.

Mouse is beautiful and knows it, but is the maddest kitten I ever met!
For a while we wondered if she ever slept!
She runs to the door with the dogs and plays fetch (with tennis balls), she sits with dogs for treats and I think we may get a few tricks as she calms down (I hope), she just turned 7months last week.

I never met a Sphynx but they don't appeal to me looks wise, but then I don't like hairless dogs, or hairless rats etc.
I like my fury babies fury!

Lol, are you sure there is no Maine Coon in her. lol!

Sphynx never appeal to people until they met one and cuddle one. My mother is one example. I got her a cuddle of one a few yrs ago and she loved him! The same Puddin' that sillymango spoke about. My mam changed her mind on them completely after meeting him. :-)

They are amazing cats. They love people and so so lovely to feel, like a warm peach.

We have wondered about Mouse, she loves water and will happily let a tap run on her too, she's in the sink every time we use the bathroom. But unless she has a mad growth spurt I don't think so!

I would love to meet a Sphynx, and am determined to get to a cat show!

Hmm so far the breeds I have come across and remember are
    Burmese
    Maine Coon
    Norwegian forest cat
    Bengal
    Egyptian Mau
    Siamese
    Persian
    Sphynx
    British shorthair
    Ragdoll

and hundreds upon hundreds of Moggies in all shapes and sizes.

All seen through different vet hospitals :) But the vast majority were seen on the UCD vet hospital. Mostly as hereditary heart issues are a problem in many of those breeds and on the specialist heart days the responsible breeders where screening their breeding cats but sadly many were also there for referral treatment.

The ragdoll and burmese were the 2 main types I would have loved to have taken home!Ragdolls coat was one fo the most beautiful things I have felt so soft!

Coon, Ragdoll, Bengal, SPhynx all have issues with HCM. Thankfully there is a dna test for the common strand of HCM for the coon and Raggie which will indicate free of, carrier, is affected. A responsible breeder should scan yearly and before a mating as well as dna testing.
It is something which any cat can carry unfortunately, even a moggie has a high chance of developing it. Most breeds are on the lower end of the scale, Siamese for example seems to be about 1% of the breed developing it.

Persian and bsh PKD is a problem, again this can be detected by a simple dna test thankfully. Its almost bred out of the bsh with the majority of breeders testing for it. It is still a problem with Persian.

    Both are horrible diseases.
