Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There is so much negativity and hopelessness in AH at the moment. It's like a very bad episode of Liveline, with Dr. Bollocko as a cynical Joe Duffy.

What are the tiny things that make you happy? I woke up this morning and stuck my head out through the curtains. There was snow on the ground. I smiled, remembered being a child, and wanted to go outside immediately to throw snowballs around. On the way to work I witnessed a cat lick her kitten.

So what makes the good folks of AH happy? The tiny and insignificant moments that move you guys away from fussing about the government, the economy, a United Ireland, and all those very emotive issues that really seem very important.

What are the lovely little things that perk you up as a human?

Walking on a frosty morning, the smell of the ocean and the sound of crashing waves, a roaring open fire on cold days and the smell of puppies.

    Edit: A happy thread in AH's :D.

When my dog tucks into the back of my knees in bed and when my cat rubs noses with me. Often my students make me laugh out loud with some innocent tale and I remember why I love working with teenagers.

The dog jumping up onto the arm of the chair and letting me use him as pillow. Listening to my niece laugh. When my hair looks nice. Being able to do something for someone.

    I'm enjoying our current weather.

When I was away for a few weeks and came back to Ireland the cold, crisp weather was the first thing I noticed and reminded my that I do actually love Ireland.

Now when I'm out having a smoke I get that feeling again.

My two year old nephew waking me up in the mornings.

Downloading newest episode of Walking Dead on a Monday morning.
Haircut and a long hot shower afterwards.
The beeping of the George Foreman to let you know your sambos are done.
Finding a 5 or 10 euro note in a jeans that has been in the wash, and you didn't even know it was there.

Finding the most comfortable spot in bed. You know what I mean, every limb of your body is just so comfy and you don't want to move incase you can't get that position back again

Also, finding some chocolate in the cupboard when you're absolutely dying for some and you didn't think you had any!

You know when you start watching a movie and you realise within five minutes into it that you are in the hands of a great director.
The Kings Speech tonight on RTE 1 was a case in point.

Raspberry Pavlova and my dog made me chuckle earlier. She was snuggled beside me on the sofa and shuffled up to my lap and when I looked down to give her a cuddle her snout was in my pocket. Very cute.

AH answer: sitting on the front terrace with a drink in hand, watching as my butler releases the hounds to chase somebody back along the drive towards the front gates.

Serious answer: meeting up with a good friend after a long time not seeing each other, and things are just like you remember :)

That, and when you wake up during the night and realise there's still another 3 hours of sleep left :D

I'm at home visiting The Mothership with me fella at the moment and I've had loads of 'em:

Lambs with their mammies up near Newgrange when we visited the last day.

Daffodils, a sign of Spring, in my parents back garden even if the weather is brutal.

Sitting with my family having lunch with some wine and great conversation and laughs and feeling that sense of unity and security and belonging you only get with your family.

Walking around Dublin yesterday and everything feeling so familiar still. Again that sense of belonging. You can feel a bit lost and like outsider sometimes when you live abroad and the feeling that you can go back knowing you belong somewhere as great as Ireland is lovely.

Mannerly and friendly waiters/waitresses/shop assistants. How I miss them.

I'm from a seaside town and now I live in a landlocked city and I'm sitting here listening to the seagulls outside and nothing else.

Friends on the telly when you turn it on.

Being in the company of funny, nice people and making each other laugh to the point where you can feel the buzzy sparks of chemistry and connection between you and your stomach hurts from laughing.

    Etc.

Sleeping or showering in your own home after being away!

    Wispa bars

A freshly washed fleece blanket just out of the dryer so it's all warm :)

An ice cold pint of Heineken!

Oh and anything to do with food.. It makes me more happy than anything in the world :)
