for building a site like boards.ie?

have an idea for a discussion site, have design in my head, sketched out, but I keep coming back to boards and thinking that's pretty much it.

I'm quite techy and can take over running of it but just not the development of it. Can look at a maintenance contract later if it takes off.

The answer is anything between €500 and €500,000 depending on the precise definition of "a site like boards.ie". You can get a forum up for tiny money, although vBulletin has a license fee. When you consider the custom modifications, hosting, security/anti-abuse measures, ad management, staff, etc. for the boards.ie operation it gets expensive quickly.

thanks, I ran a forum type thing a while ago on a free forum site but it was very restricted in features. Im aware of costs of running, it was the build/setup I was interested in.

ooo, just looking at vbulletin and then found xenforo, this has opened up everything for me. cheers. I can get close to what Im looking for with this.
