Remove the ethernet cable, from pc lan port,
pc should just boot up into windows straight away.
otherwise ,just wait 2 or 3 minutes ,while it allocates the pc an ip adress.
MY Laptop does the same thing,
takes 2mins to set up ip adress.
then put in cable, AFTER windows loads up.
    or try options below.

    see
    http://www.hardwareheaven.com/hardware-discussion-support/147292-slow-boot-due-dhcp.html

    quote
t click on My Computer and then select Manage.

Now double click on Services and Applications

    Now double click on Services

    Scroll down to DHCP Client

Notice that it likely is set to Automatic

Right click on it and select Properties

In Start Up type, change it to Manual.

Exit out with the OKs and reboot.

    or quote,

o add to Dyres suggestion, I would also look at something else.

To me it sounds like one of 2 things: 1) the network card is listed as a bootable item in the bios, or 2) the network cards onboard bootrom got reset some how.

For number 1 it's pretty easy. Just go into the bios, and look for the bootup options. If there, remove the network card from the boot order, or at the very least move it to be the last device.

    see bios,advanced,boot ,boot order,

set network card, last, last device to boot.

    hd =first device= hardrive

    hard drive 1 =device 1

Disable LAN boot in the BIOS

AS above ,remove lan network, device ,from the boot order list

    network boot =lan.

My gut reaction to that message is that it seems likely that your hard drive is not being picked up by the system anymore. If you did not make any changes to your computer recently (in BIOS or physically inside the computer), this could spell trouble for you.

    Some things to consider:

Did any other message come up on-screen before this (like the SYSTEM DATE is wrong)? Usually this points to a CMOS battery issue. The boot order may have reset back to a different order, or the hard drive options were not auto-detected (highly unlikely unless we're talking an ancient system) as a result.

The cable connecting the hard drive has become unseated at either end. Or even the power cable connecting to it (both highly unlikely if you were not tinkering inside the computer).

    I have same problem,
it sets ip adress for lan card,
eg black screen, dhcp setting, spinning circle,
after 2 minutes , it loads up windows.
IE i dont think its a problem with your drive,
if your drive loads up windows normally, after 3-4 minutes.
ITS simply wrong boot order ,
eg boot is set to lan first,
    Before hd 0, hardrive.

i presume windows loads up after 3 minutes.

it doesnt go into windows, it just says disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter.

the only problem Ive had with it is the last couple of days it has kept restarting itself after being shut down.

its probably about 2 yrs old and I've not done anything else with it.

IF YOU cannot see ,a ide hardrive ,
or sata hardrive listed in the bios,
    it means,

There could be a loose cable,to the drive,

ide or sata cable to drive could be not all the way into the ide, or sata interface.

OR CABLE COULD BE LOOSE on the motherboard,
pc board, eg ide ,or sata connector on the motherboard.

    above pic with sata interface,
    ide interface for drive connection.

YOU could knock off pc power,

remove pc cable from esb socket.in the wall,.

    CAREFULLY open pc case,
make sure cable is tight going into hardrive interface,

the power cable and data cables are all the way in,

THE data . ide,or sata cables are not loose,
    on both ends ,
    drive end,
    and motherboard end.

    KNOCK OFF PC,

REMOVE power cable from THE ESB socket FIRST.
BEFORE you open the pc case.

MAKE SURE power cable to hardrive is in,tight on both ends.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,931 ✭✭✭whizbang

This is the way to put the power cable when opening the pc.

    hd ide drive.
and data cable is tight ,in drive,
and in the motherboard pc motherboard.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,184 ✭✭✭riclad

Make sure power cable inside pc that supplys power to the harddrive, is tight ,in all the way,
DATA CABLE for the hardrive is tight ,on both ends.eg
