    Hi guys,
A few years ago when I was 20 I dropped out of college after 2 years studying computer science. This was due to a lot of things mainly to do with the fact that I had a girlfriend at the time and instead of going to class (which I should have) I found myself missing so many classes spending time with her.So I fell behind with a few classes and missed important classes/notes/labs etc....and then failed my end of year exams. So i decided to drop out. I felt terrible at the time dropping out and my parents were far from happy after paying the fees. I know that I could have managed to pass all my exams if I just concentrated more and put in the work. Sadly I was just too young and immature to understand the importance of college. I wish now that I put college first instead of work, socialising, girlfriend etc... It just seems like such a waste of 2 years now. Anyone else feel the same? Or any other similar stories?

    Hi Con,

Had pretty much the same experience myself. I did first year of a Software Development degree in the big smoke (coming from Mayo), spent the summer working and living the life and when I went back, I gave it a few months but being terribly immature I thought that I was an idiot being in college when I had such a great laugh working during the summer so I left.

It was a decision that I've always looked back on with regret although I probably wouldn't be who I am today without the experiences I've had since. But like you I knew that if I had applied myself I would have gotten my degree. Ive spent the last few years doing part time study in a different field but now at 28 I've applied to return to college full time to complete my software development degree (starting at first year again). And at least now I feel confident going back, that it is what I want to do and that I have the cop on now to see it through.

Best of luck with whatever you do!

Same thing happened to me. Did half a year in IADT after my Leaving Cert but had my first boyfriend at the time and was more interested in being with him than going to class. Dropped out and worked full-time in a garage. Then I did a two year diploma in Graphic Design but still didn't know what I wanted to do. Then I finally found the course that was right for me and ended up getting a first class honours and now about to finish my Masters with hopefully a first too :)

A lot has happened in the last 5 years!
