Rifle & Shotgun cleaning chemicals. (Follow up to Bore-tech group buy)

I've been doing a little checking, and have come up with a fairly comprehensive list of the most popular, and effective cleaning solutions.

They vary in brand, make, purpose, etc. however i believe they cover everything from carbon removers, copper removers, moly lube, oils, shotgun cleaners, etc.


I have attached a poll with the option for multiple choices. If you would be interest just select the ones in the list you would be interested in, and if i've missed anything post it below. I also would be interested in getting orders for patches, but as i don't want to clog the poll with too many options you can post which patches would be best suited to your needs.

Participation in this thread does not mean you are tied to a group buy. I am only gauging interest at the moment. If a group buy is plausible then i'll start another thread with a narrowed down list of the most popular products, and availability of each one, plus a list of patches sizes, and amounts.

As for patches. I'd be interested in 1.5" square, 1" square, 1,000 per pack, two packs of each.

Then some 3" round, 500 per pack, one pack.

Kg products seem the best from anything i have read.
Just on a side note does anybody find the bore tec brass jags and patches too tight

I use the KG stuff whenever i can find someone stocking it.

As for the jags, i didn't say anything as i thought it was just me. I have a brass jag (not proof positive) for the .308, and it works fine with 2" patches. With a new proof positive jag i bought a few months ago i find it to be very tight with the same patches. Now it works, but if i used Butch's boreshine i can run a patch on the brass jag up and down the barrel like a mop. With the new jag and same patches i can run it up through the barrel with a small bit of effort, but not back down. Not a major issue as i usually just run them through anyway.

I have the .243 to clean so will try the new rod, and jag tomorrow. However i did find a slightly smaller patch worked fine with the new jag. I still think tighter is better (keep it clean ye dirty feckers).

I haven't used mine yet but the lad i got some of the stuff for , found the .243 very tight, i think he was using hoppes solvent with it.

I think i have a linked saved on the lap top in work for a contact for the kg stuff ,il check in the morning

Anyone used that Boretech Shotgun Blend?

Interested to know if it really works on plastic fouling...Hoppes #9 isn't really up to the job, I've been using Hoppes Elite cleaner for the past while and it's great for plastic fouling but I'm nearly out of it.

Funny you mention that. With the bore shine (water-type liquid) it was easier than the bore gels. Is the Hoppes the gel? All i have left of my Hoppes stuff is the foam.

On their website they list the product, and it's effectiveness at removing the different types of fouling.

Have that saved. Will check some sites, and send some e-mails. Will have to stay "local" as US companies will not deal (most of them) with international orders on chemicals.

Plus i want to get prices, and ideally one place to order all the products being sought. Not really inform for doing multiple orders from multiple companies.

Very strong cleaner that i don't see anyone using so forgot all about it.

Open less than a week, but already some common trends coming through.

The Bore-Tech rimfire blend, and copper eliminator being popular. pPus the KG, but that is no surprise.



One thing i do find surprising is the interest in Butch's Bore Shine. I use it myself, but used to get odd looks form people when i told them i use it. As though i was doing something wrong. I know it's a fairly strong cleaner, but i don't use it regularly, and only when the gun needs a gun scrubbing (long day at the range, etc).


I;ve been doing some checking online to see if i can source a company that would supply all the brands, and ship. Sending e-mails eventually, and will continue until the poll closes in 2 weeks. So keep you choices coming.

Would you believe i was looking at this last night, and trying to gather the strength to take it to the next step - orders, etc.

I'll finalise the supplier, and details in the next few days. Then stick up a new thread. The new one will have only the products i can get all from the one supplier. I'm hoping that will cover most of them, and then take it form there.
