I wonder has the Wetlands centre done better with visitors this year with the fine summer...(at least fine up until this week!).

    http://www.radiokerry.ie/news/over-31-of-cigarettes-smoked-in-tralee-are-illegal/

If the idiots in power decided to stop increasing the price of cigarettes and lowered it people would not then buy "illegal" cigarettes.

I wondered that also how they actually got their figures.

Surely getting a few cans will be simpler and cheaper? And I cannot see the Gardai enforcing a no alcohol rule on the streets if they are allowing a bar. Bad precedent overall.

The idea of the bar is to regulate the alcohol on the streets, if cans were allowed, people could buy them in supermarkets & bring them along. It would affect the profit & overall monies to be donated to the Donal Walsh foundation.
There's also the safety factor, someone throws or drops a plastic glass of beer, no problem, someone throws a full can of beer...heaven help a child that gets hit with that

But the Gardai cannot enforce a ban on supermarket beer if drinking is allowed.

And Judge James O’Connor also made an order at Tralee District Court directing that drink charges at the planned event will not exceed the prices which were publicly displayed yesterday at the Abbey Inn in Kerry’s county town.

I paid 32 euros for 4 jagermeisters and two cans of red bull on Saturday in there. More fool me.

Actually I got robbed by the mall off license during the festival last year as well!

It'll be inside a particular area, you won't be allowed bring alcohol from outside. Same as not being able to go to an off licence & drink your purchases inside the Abbey inn

So the idea is to drink some pissy lager or whatever is left in your plastic glass by the time you get through the crowd, to watch Picture House and try not to get the ole head boxed in by the usual type that cant get served anywhere else.

Nah I think I will stick to the pub

No papers delivered in Tralee today but I seen all the drivers and their vans beside the Horan's filling station with a pallet of papers under the covered awning. No movement from the drivers though. Some form of industrial action or a dispute over payment maybe as I assume they are all private contractors?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,340 ✭✭✭phormium

When I was in local shop earlier today someone asked why no papers, the shop assistant said the delivery vehicle had crashed this morning on the way to Kerry so no papers! Don't now whether that was true or not but that is what he said.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,612 ✭✭✭Lelantos

If memory serves, there are 2 companys, Newspread & Newsbrothers. So 2 different deliverys.

I was in Supervalu in Kilarney and they had a poster up stating the same. They said they might get the Indo and Examiner after lunchtime.

Papers arrived back west at about 4pm. Rumour had it that the van was impounded by the guards following a crash this morning.

    Daft.ie add for Fabric.
    http://www.daft.ie/searchcommercial.daft?id=115677

    2012 rates €34500! :(

Now that the initial buzz has died down how's the Rocky road diner these days? There hasn't been any talk of it lately.

Are they holding the crowd? Hard to see from the road as the car park is behind the restaurant.

I haven't been, and in no rush to go after hearing more bad reviews from 2 people I know! They have 4 reviews on Tripadvisor, all negative!

The interior of Fabric is as good as any niteclub we have up here in Dublin (if not better). Its a shame it's lying idle. If they got a professional operator to run it and have a strict door policy, then I think it would be a welcome addition to the town (particularly for visiting tourists, groups of lads/girls looking for a socialising weekend in another town overlook Tralee due to the lack of proper niteclubs)

Horans and also Spirals (showing my age!) never seemed to have the antisocial behaviour that Fabric had week in week out that spilled out onto Princes Street afterwards. A squad car seemed to be permanently parked outside every Saturday night when it operated.

Haven't been to Rocky Mountain but the discussion about it and comparisons to MJs made me decide to try MJs even though I would not be a regular fast food customer, have to say was very impressed and have actually been there twice! Burgers are very good and there are lots of things on that menu I would like to try.

Same as that, went to MJs for the first time 2 weeks ago, great food.

In the interests of balance, I have had takeout from both mjs and Rocky Mountain recently, I found both to be excellent.

The problem for rocky mountain is first impressions last, and everyone I've spoken to have not been impressed with the place.

I've certainly avoided the place because of it.

I think with the size of the investment that was made into it, there should have been an emphasis on hiring a manager with proper experience of running a fast food restaurant. 12 or 13 staff standing around chatting while floors are dirty is unacceptable.

I hope they can turn it around though, because someone has a lot of money tied up in it!

I've been there three or four times since it opened and i cant fault the food or service.Like every new business venture it was bound to have some hiccups, what business doesnt?

Their Peri Peri chicken burger is very tasty and it has proper local chicken.I haven't once considered Mcdonalds since it opened tbh.
A few posts on their facebook page from a handfull of people doesnt sum up the overall impression of the place.

Anything to avoid mc donalds is a good thing, I'm always hungry 30 mins after it. As I say I hope they can make a business of it, its good to see people investing these days!

What used annoy me about Fabric in the end was the "turn the blind eye" approach by the staff, let the scumbags rule the place which in turn turned off most people going there.

Other then that some great memories of great nights upstairs

Del should take it over :)

    Thanks,

I am surprised that it has not been taken over already.

Surely Tralee town can support a decent nightclub?

Where do people go on Friday and Saturday nights?

Late night bars have now taken over that scene. It makes commercial sense in fairness. You cannot justify the rent/rates on a standalone nightclub that trades for a handful of hours every week.
