Theres an ad in todays Kerrys Eye from Corcorans Furniture looking for a Receptionist (Internship) - see ad attached with the list of "activities". They should look up what Internships are meant to be about. No mention of training. Its a disgrace & its the likes of this that gives internships such a bad name.

Surely the ad screams at you that this is a job for an experienced receptionist but paid for by the taxpayer under the bogus title of an internship. The ad even states that the person must be able to work off their own bat i.e. no supervision or training.

This has to be reported to the department as an abuse of the scheme.

No experienced receptionist worth his/her salt would touch that job.
It needs an experienced, cool head to carry out those duties & more or less run the business

I can't believe how many of these types of 'internship' jobs companies are taking advantage of and how they are getting away with it!

I worked as a receptionist & a secretary for a few years! It is hard work and to be paid a measly €50 extra on top of social welfare is insulting! This job description is more than just a receptionist, they are almost expecting the person to run the place!

It is an absolute abuse. Shame on you Corcoran Furniture!

Don't they have to get prior approval for those 'jobs' from Social Welfare? It must have been approved by them, employers were chancing their arm but they got it by SW who should be picking up on these things surely.

That is clearly looking for a fully experienced person, not someone that will benefit from the training.

That Jobsbridge thing is a disgrace. I did one before and was supposed to have constant meetings about how I was getting on. Didn't have one. I was left off to my own devises. After a month it was clear there was never going to be any job out of it. Very hard to motivate yourself knowing that. No thanks or anything when we finished up then!

No they don't which is the flaw. Employers can just put it on the website and only when they get a person for the position do they apply to the Department for the funding. So the ad in the paper in many cases sets out what they really want i.e. a clearly experienced peson whereas the form they will send off to the Department will suggest the fiction of it being an 'intern' role.

That explains that so, thought it had to be pre approved as in the job spec, ad etc. But that would be hoping for too much obviously!

I was upstairs in Manor recently and they weren't up by the toilets anyway. In fact I don't recall seeing them at all and certainly no signs indicating where they are.

Mezzanine just means a floor between 2 main floors, so its a bit ambiguous alright.
I'm sure that anybody in the cafe would be able to point somebody in the right direction, they've probably been asked once or 14 times before.
Or maybe ask that poor guy at the bottom of the stairs selling sky packages, nobody talks to him unless the footie is on. He could do with some company I'd say

I think Corcoran's should take note on how to place an ad for an intern

What was going on outside Boyle Sports during the week. Large crowd and Gardaí present? Perhaps someone needed a Garda Escort after a large win??

Next week is Cheltenham, Best of Luck to The Cooper family.

There was a guy arrested for threatening to burn the place down with a 5L fuel drum last Sunday in a dispute over a bet. Its covered in the Kerry's Eye.

Anybody have problems with the drive through in burger king? I spent 5 mins at the speaker to be told drive up to the next window. 10 minutes later, 3 members of staff walk by the window, including the same guy twice who makes eye contact but ignores me. 20 minutes all in I drive up to the next window and ask to speak to the manager. I make no apologies for it but I was very vocal in my complaints before driving away.

There was 1 other car in the queue in front of me so it's not as if they were flat out.

McDonalds had me served and the lot in less than 3 minutes and I was behind 3 other cars.

Tldr; service in new BK is piss poor.
