Bushes won't tighten on dented axle - NCT Fail!

    Hi all,

A friend of mine brought her 03 peugeot 206 for the NCT and it failed on a few items. One of them was the "bushes" on the axle (not sure what these are - I'm not familiar with car mechanics!)

So she paid a garage a good sum of money and they said they fixed everything for the NCT. They did mention that the axle had a dent in it, though it should be OK.

She brought it back to the NCT retest, and it failed again! Apparently, one of the bushes wasn't tight enough!

So she brought it back to the garage, and the garage said that it was tight when she left them. They claim that, via normal driving, it must have come lose due to the dent in the axle. They then said that they were unable to tighten it again, and she would need a new axle!

Is this possible? Or are the garage just trying to get more money out of her? As I said, I don't know car mechanics at all, but I'm surpised that if you tighten something once with bolts, that it would come lose again in a few days due to normal driving?

Any help appreciated! If she does need to change the axle, how much would this cost, assuming they can source a second-hand axle?

    Thanks!

These pre NCT car checks/services are a waste of time.

As for the problem with the car, its very hard to know why it failed or what the issue is without seeing it.

The rear axles are a major failing point on the 206's.
